Fremont International Academy reopened
in 2019 as a new, academically rigorous
elementary magnet school with a
curriculum and design based on the
International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary
Years Programme.
At Fremont, we see our students as
internationally-minded critical thinkers.
Every student will learn how to ask
questions, embrace challenges and
empathize with others through a cuttingedge
learning experience that includes
foreign language instruction and a
world culture focus. A Fremont education
prepares students to be open-minded,
reflective lifelong thinkers who positively
impact the world.
WHAT IS IB?
IB — which stands for International
Baccalaureate — is an education
organization known worldwide for
excellence in education, focused on
developing students as global citizens. At
Fremont International Academy, we want to
stimulate the inquiring minds of our students,
so they can gain a deeper understanding
of the world around them. The IB Primary
Years Programme prioritizes not just helping
students learn, but also teaching them “how
to learn” through inquiry, problem-solving
and communication.
Note: Fremont International Academy is currently an
International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
candidate school. We are currently working through
our candidacy phase, with the goal of completing
authorization by the end of the 2022-2023 school year.

At Fremont International
Academy, we see every
student as an IB student.
Fremont students are exposed
to other countries and cultures
across all subject areas
through the International
Baccalaureate Primary Years
Programme model.
The learning experience at Fremont
International Academy features:
• All four core subjects with instruction
in English (Math, Science, English
Language Arts and Social Studies)
• Teacher-created units to develop
students’ inquiry skills
• Daily Spanish language instruction,
with an additional extended Spanish
class period once each week
• Daily elective classes such as Art
and Physical Education
• Exploration of world cultures
• Character building through
collaboration

All Fremont students
receive dedicated
Spanish language
instruction time
every day, weaving
language skills into
their educational
experience.
Instruction in a second
language is a core tenet of the
International Baccalaureate
Primary Years Programme
educational model — studies
have shown that in addition
to the practical benefits of
bilingual fluency, speaking
more than one language can
also improve critical thinking
and listening skills.
At BCPS, we aim to develop
well-rounded students who are
globally-minded and ready
to succeed in today’s world.
Language skills are a key part of
that vision.
With the City of Battle Creek’s
large Hispanic population,
Spanish is the perfect language
to start with for our students
to connect with both our local
community and the rest of the
Spanish-speaking world.

Fremont International Academy was designed to feature a
learning environment where students can flourish and develop
the inquiry, problem-solving, critical thinking and communication
skills that will prepare them to take on the world! Student success is

COMMON DRESS GUIDELINES
In order to create a sense of community among our Fremont
students while maintaining a focus on learning, all students
adhere to a set of common dress guidelines that were
developed in conjunction with parents.

[The daily Spanish instruction] has allowed students to take
on a new and exciting challenge through language
and to integrate these words into their daily lives.
The kids are so curious about other countries and
cultures, and are becoming globally minded
citizens! Fremont is a great place to be!
