You’ve been grinding for a

minute now. What was the

breaking moment for you?

What really took that success and

everything was when I started

hitting the radio stations. I went to

ATLANTA, GEORGIA and I started

hitting the radio stations over

there and then came over here in

Memphis and was radio stations

out here. And then CHARLESTON,

I was in stations over there... I

just started coming like a wildfire

coming through and if you get in

the way of that, you gettin' burnt

and if you don’t get out of the way,

you gettin' burnt...

But, it was challenging, man,

because there were times it was

like trying to feel the crowd out and

nobody is moving... you got Blacks,

you got Whites, you got Mexicans,

you got Chinese, I mean come on!

This a REAL party, this ain’t just no

hood party... so, I’m like I gotta spin

everything... take ‘em to the hood,

take ‘em to the R & B, take ‘em

to the old skool... but in the end, I

figured it out and how to bring the

audience together and it’s amazing

to see how you can connect with

people through music which is the

universal language that speaks to

our soul.

What's the next plan for DJ

NYNJAH? What you got

coming up?

Well, the events I got planned next

is taking it one step at a time and

letting the good GOD guide my

steps and trying to make it out here.

I got a new artist I’m working with

named MAC CHRIS. He’s coming

out of RIPLEY and he has that flow.

So, hopefully, y’all will check him

out.

How did you get your foot in

the door the first time?

I actually started off with the

backyard parties. There was this

kat who would pay me $200 to

DJ for him when I first started and

that’s how I ended up being able to

purchase my official DJ equipment

and stuff... this was back in Trinidad.

What’s a venue that you would

love to perform at and pack out the

house?

[In Memphis] I definitely would like

to do the MINGLEWOOD HALL

and that’s definitely a big venue. I

recently DJ’d for a college party; a

prom out there and we have that

footage on our YouTube pages. I

think there’s one called VLIVE

Memphis... I’d like to definitely do

a show out there! And any other big

clubs out here in Memphis looking

to do big things with me.

Now, you just did the GOSPEL

FEST back in 2017. How was

that experience?

Yea, down in SOUTH CAROLINA.

It was pretty good. I actually DJ’d

for PASTOR CHARLES JENKINS,

which he’s a celebrity gospel artist,

so shout-outs to him and all his

movements he’s got going on. I

work very well with Gospel acts.

management

101

As a special dedication

to our relaunch of P.I.F.F. Magazine,

I will include one chapter in every

issue of P.I.F.F. from my book on

model management, titled, ‘Model

Life’. Stick with us each issue

to pick up new skills and learn

the basics of managing people in

the modeling industry.

PART 7 OF 10

PROMOTE YOUR MODEL

The more the world gets to see your model’s face, the more

acquainted they’ll become, the more in-demand they’ll be,

and the higher the odds will increase of them landing bigger

and better – and more profitable – gigs and more frequently;

all great reasons why you need to promote your models every

chance you get. You need to promote them in as many places

as possible as often and consistently as possible. There are

several ways you can do so, and a good manager knows how

to do them all simultaneously and mix it all together to make

it flow perfectly.

36 © 2019 P.I.F.F. Magazine. All Rights Reserved. 37

Since the whole world is on social

media these days, why not start

there? It’s free, it’s quick, it’s global,

and it’s effective. Your models

should have every social media

account possible from Facebook to

Instagram. New promotional photos

and status updates should be going

up a few times a week and messages

should be responded to, as to build

up a real interaction with fans and

industry connections.

As you’re working on building up

those likes, shares, and follows,

you should also start focusing on

real-world exposure. During the

marketing planning between my

models and myself, I try to figure

out where my models envision

themselves in the future of their

career goals. Is it to grace the cover

of a specific magazine? Be endorsed

by a certain brand? Represent a

cause? Headline an event? Host

their own show? The answers to

these questions will help steer your

promotional direction for these

models.

For instance, if a model seeks to

be on the cover of Maxim, I would

connect to key people at Maxim,

specifically those in charge of

submissions and I would hound

them with promotional photos

every week until they gave us

something – anything. It may not

be a cover feature, but landing

There's really no wrong

way to promote, except

not to promote.

any type of feature would pave

the way to achieving it. Once we

had a feature, maybe I'd work

on several other magazines to

get them on a different cover. As

fans start to become more familiar

and the model’s magazine credits

build up, I'd return to Maxim with

a much stronger and appealing

pitch for cover. Best advertisement

promo comes from small and

start-up businesses.

There's really no wrong way to

promote, except not to promote.

Contact radio stations and try

to land on-air interviews. Put

together your website and

feature them with written and/

or video interviews as well as

bonus material. Create a YouTube

movement and have your models

get personal with real-life stories

of their life and struggles in their

ambitions and documentary-style

videos that make your model

realer and more interactive to the

fans. Create posters and blow-up

ads featuring them and hit local

places such as bars, nightclubs,

local businesses, and ask if

you can post them up. Create

some ads for the businesses

As you’re working on

building up those likes,

shares, and follows, you

should also start focusing

on real-world exposure.

themselves and pitch the idea to

the company. Maybe you’ll make

an endorsement sale – maybe

not – either way, it’s exposure

and exposure is a key in Model

Life. Hand out business cards for

your model and get them placed

in events... if you can’t get them

placed in events at the moment

like community-speaking events,

charity causes, school motivation

talks, educational seminars, then

the next step is to create your own

events and gigs – anything to get

your models’ faces and names out

there even more....

“Spotlight” featuring

VETT ADAMS

P.I.F.F.: What kind of

photoshoot do you have

coming up?

Vett Adams: I have some fashion

wear that I’m doing and some

bikini wear. I might do implied

nude due to another collection that

I’m trying to do through another

vendor for their website. I’m going

to start collaborating around other

states too. I’m going to the SXSW

Music Festival. I’m going with a

group called BTS Models so that

I can collaborate and see what’s

available for me so that, when I

come back [to Phoenix], I can get

things squared away by just talking

to different photographers and then

start expanding.

Interview by Xavier “CompleX” Prue

What are some of the recent

deals and projects that you’ve

been putting together?

More as a project, because I do

have management through Allure

Talent, it’s more like make up lines

and things like that. So, I’m targeting

more of my face since I do have the

facial features. So, I’ve been working

really hard because if I do certain

photos, I want them to come out

clean and very editorial so they can

be submitted in the correct way.

What is your vision?

Actually making Covergirl. Since I’m

already in the Top 30 for Miss Jetset

2019, I’m also pushing for top 20 for

this magazine as well. The donations

go directly to the awareness of

children who are fighting cancer.

I’m also getting involved with other

music artists as well for collaboration

and music videos. If I do a music

video though, I want more of like a

clean slate. Not too dramatic. Not

too much because I want to hold a

certain image that I’m going for. At

the end of the day, I have to be like

‘hey I do have family’.

40 4.4 THE INSPIRATION ISSUE OCTOBER 2019 42

Do you have other aspirations

besides modeling that you’re

pushing for too?

Right now, it’s mainly the modeling

and pushing it towards the

magazines. Then, I already know

when it hits to that point, it’s time to

put a business together.

At what point will you feel

successful?

When I hit that Covergirl magazine,

that’s when I’ll know. I want them

to also see my other creations too.

I need something to present in a

correct way.

How long have you been

modeling for?

It’s been 4 years and 2 months.

other models. I promote too with

Phoenix Dymes. I just stay updated

as far as my business because if I

need something, I can get it squared

away right then and there. I try to

work with their schedule and have

them work with mine because I

don’t like to rush. Everything has to

be on point when I open that door.

How do you maintain keeping

up a hectic schedule?

I don’t know how to really explain

it. It’s just something that I do and I

just do it. Everybody works. If you

really want it, then you have to go

get it. I constantly work. Even on the

days that I’m off, I’m booked. I stay

working and then, go home.

What can we expect from Vett

Adams next?

the ones by your side. If you want

change, go head and get change. If

not, then you stuck. I’m not going to

be stuck.

Any shout-outs to anybody?

Shout out to Trey Photos.

Shout out to Tor - She’s one of the

designers who I’ve walked for on

runway. I love her work. She’s the

one who actually got me put on,

too. Also, Shout out to my manager,

James, as well. He’s always there

and very supportive. Knowing my

vision and all the beautiful things

that he says very inspiring and

always staying positive and saying

that everyday is a good day. Always

that positive vibe.

Shout out to my mom, dad, and all

of my family.

What’s the modeling market

like in Phoenix?

It is pretty good because of Phoenix

Fashion week and there’s a lot of

big events. There’s a lot of fashion

shows. There’s a lot of photographers

out here; it’s crazy. You may not

think they’re out here, but they are.

There’s a lot of artists that come

down here too and collaborate with

I’m going to just surprise y’all. It’s

going to be something hot, ok?

Everything’s already booked, so just

hang on tight and wait and see...

Any advice for aspiring models?

Keep believing in what you do and

never give up. Every day matters.

I hope you have a strong-minded

ambition and really go for it. Show

not just your friends, but also your

family because they’re going to be

KEEP

FAITH

Interview By: Xavier “CompleX” Prue

Daniecce Ward

Photos By: JE Photos

44 4.4 THE INSPIRATION ISSUE OCTOBER 2019 45

PIFF: How is the modeling field

in Wisconsin?

DANIECCE WARD: It’s a lot of

people who say they model, but it’s

more so they’re just taking pictures.

We don’t have any [official] models.

So, we have people who take

pictures, who do fashion shows, but

I don’t know of any paid models in

Milwaukee. So, there are a lot of

us who are inspiring to be a reallife

model and we’re putting in the

work or doing the things that models

would do – walking in fashion shows,

posing for look books, you know –

so, it’s a lot. And then, you have the

other side of that, too, where you

have people who have cameras and

they call themselves photographers

because they do photoshoots with

people and they have the idea that

as a model, you need to be naked

or come off on a seductive appeal;

and there is more to modeling than

just that.

Why do you think that is?

We’ve been subliminally taught that

as women, we don’t deserve respect.

Instead of telling someone that’s not

modeling or even saying “oh, those

pictures are so pretty” when they’re

really not – and I don’t mean that the

person isn’t pretty – but as a woman,

you should make them value you.

You should have enough value and

worth and morals for yourself that

you would tell them like “nah, I ain’t

doing that”.

For example, when I was school

in Nashville, they were looking for

models for a photoshoot. So, when

I finally saw the pictures, you could

see a part of my vagina because I

had on shorts and I told him, “no,

you’re going to delete these photos.

That’s not the type of person I am. I

sing in the choir; I go to Church... I’m

that type of woman. I’m not this one

that you trying to portray” and he

respected that but he was also like,

“wow, I’ve never had any female tell

me that” and I had to tell him that

I’m not your regular fan. I’m not out

here just to be seen. I’m not out here

to be a piece of eye candy. This is

a platform that God has blessed me

with to draw people to Him.

What made you decide to travel

from Wisconsin to New York for

New York Fashion Week?

It was crazy because there was a

designer here who I work with and

who I send with and she was taking

people to New York for New York

Fasion Week and I hit her up, like,

“hey, if you need another model,

let me know” and she had already

known me a lot longer than the

other models, but she didn’t respond

in the moment. And then, another

model made a [social media] post

about a different designer looking

for models to walk with during NY

Fashion Week, so.... I dropped a

picture and she hit me and said,

“call me in the morning!” This was a

lady from Texas named Linda Scott

and she told me to get my plane

ticket and I was like, “ok, fine!” So,

DJ Khaled releases his 11th album, ‘Father of Asahd’ just in time for the summer

and boy, is it a hit! Bringing together a good number of today’s musical icons

as well as some of old, he provides a good blend and the right balance that

only Khaled could do. Overall, the album is a soundtrack of inspiration and

encouragement, success and thanks, and God’s mercy and grace. Keeping Nipsey

moves up another hip-hop notch with this one... and you already know what he
