PRESENTATION
The selected images that will be displayed show Belem to travelers and illustrator artists and from the
18th, 19thand early 20th century, are the remnants in which the first respective illustrators narrated the
process of founding the city of Belem. At that time, several naturalists and travelers passed through the
Amazon and recorded impressions about the forest and life in this part of Brazil in their diaries. In the
second, illustrators from the early 20th century, the history of the city with the daily life and its growing
urbanization process left by the period of construction of the city was told. Thus, the challenge now in
contemporary art, is to bring some of the most by the illustrations of these artists and, to reinvent in their
works a manipulative action in the illustrations, which is present in contemporary Art. In this way, to value
the small, “Mangueiras of the City”, in a poetic and artistic look supported by Art Pop artists, and
photographers of great name in Contemporary Art.

INTRODUCTION:
The project presented is based on the narratives of some expeditionary travelers from the 18th, 19th
century. As well as two illustrator artists from the beginning of the 20th century (Theodoro Braga and
Branco de Melo), who dialogue with artists from the past of the history of the wanted “Mangueiras of the
City”. Thus, telling the story of the city of Belem with an eye towards the natural beauty of the region. The
works presented presented show the city life and the landscape of the “Morena City”, which were made to
tell the contextuality of the time of the construction of the city. Thus, some reinterpretations of the works of
these artists will be made, and supported by contemporary art by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Andy
Warhol, Man Ray and Glauco Rodrigues. Therefore, the works organized in a notebook are unpublished
with rereading and manipulation in the illustrations. The work of the arrangement will aim at the overlapping
of 8 works n already reread, with illustration, in the illustration, and poetic creation for a contemporary art
show. In this way, it is to present the history of our city, in these reinterpretations works superimposed on the
illustrations. And also add to the work the poetics of literature for photographic manipulation in
contemporary times. As a final product, the works will be cataloged, which will be distributed in digital
media, for dissemination (blogspot, Som e Vida Hot), for dissemination and knowledge of the readed works.
It is a new interpretation of works illustrated so many years and centuries ago, having artistic techniques as
support in art (painting, photos, literature) done with its own style, but without escaping the original theme
of the work. Each human being has his own way of seeing and interpreting reality and it is this uneasiness
and poetic look back to the past bringing to the contemporary.

What is Contemporary Art?
It is a concept that has two meanings: either it refers to the art of the modern period, that is, to art
since the 18th century, or as it is commonly accepted, to the post-war art, also known as second vanguards of
the 20th century and until today with the use of new materials in the art of innovating in the visual city of
readings of works

Final considerations:
The project, Belem of Travelers: 18th and 19th centuries and 20th century illustrating artists -
Contemporary views of the city, unfolded in the illustrations and works of traveling artists and, as well as in
the works of artists of the beginning of the last century (20th century, Theodoro Braga and Branco de Melo),
were reread in a contemporary way, supported by artists from the History of Art, Pop art, and other artists,
such as Man Rey, and Andy Warhol. The action taken in the manipulation of the illustrated material enabled
a new look at the city, in which the material was superimposed on the photographs, with a new
contemporary look of the beautiful, “Morena City”. Finished, however, with the re-readings in the
illustrations chosen by these two artists in the early 20th century, and the illustrator travelers, obtaining
beautiful results from our city in an artist's notebook.
