Hearts vs. Kotoko:
$130,000 gate proceeds
sets new revenue record
GHANA'S
BIGGEST
derby involving
Accra
Hearts of Oak
and Asante Kotoko has set a
new revenue record for the
country after raking in
GHc726,380 following Sunday's
match between Hearts
and Kotoko.
The amount, which is
about $130,000, becomes the
highest amount any match
has earned in the Ghana Premier
League in the country.
"The amount from the
gate proceeds in the Hearts
of Oak clash with Asante
Kotoko was GHc 726,380,"
National Sports Authority
PRO Charles Amoah has
said.
The previous record was
held by Kotoko last year
when they played Camerounian
side Coton Sport Garoua
in the CAF Confederation
Cup in Kumasi, which match
earned them GHc639,000.
Prior to that record, the
highest proceeds recorded
over the years was in 2014
when Ghana spanked Egypt
6-1 in a World Cup qualifier
in Kumasi that recorded a little
over GHc400,000.
So now the new record is
held by Hearts versus Kotoko
match on Sunday,
which ended 2-1 in favour of
the visiting side.

Dr Kyei gives each Kotoko player
GHc2000 for beating Hearts of Oak
EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN of
Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Dr.
Kwame Kyei, has delivered on his
promise to reward the Kotoko
players with a special package
should they beat Hearts of Oak
in their league clash.
Dr. Kyei rewarded each player
with cash of GHc2000 for beating
Hearts of Oak over the weekend.
The Porcupine warriors triumphed
over sworn enemies
Hearts of Oak on Sunday at the
Accra Sports Stadium by 2-1.
Justice Blay opened the scores
for the Porcupine Warriors with a
deft header with the back of his
head in the early stages of the
game.
There were two further
goals in the second
half, first with a routine
short corner headed
home by Joseph Esso
after the initial shot
had hit the post.

There were two further goals
in the second half, first with a
routine short corner headed
home by Joseph Esso after the
initial shot had hit the post.
Very late into the game, Kotoko
won a penalty which was
duly converted by Guinean import
Naby Keita to give Kotoko
all three points.
Speaking to the players late on
Sunday night, Dr. Kyei honoured
his promise and outlined new
juicy bonus packages to the team.
'Yesterday, I promised you
that I would do something special.
Your winning bonus was 400
but I have reviewed it to 2,000,''
Dr Kyei disclosed at the team's
hotel.
'Also, your winning bonus for
away and home matches was
GH¢ 400 and GH¢ 300 respectively
but from today, it's GH¢
500.'
THE GHANA Football Association
is set to ink a partnership deal with
the State Transport Corporation
(STC).
The deal, among other things,
shall see the Ghanaian transport
company render services to referees
and other match officials as part of
a special package.
The arrangement between the
GFA and STC will allow for match
officials to embark on two-way travels
to cover football matches in STC
vehicles as the football governing
body bids to help solve challenges
that confront the
refereeing sector in
the exercising of
their duties.
The GFA President,
Kurt Okraku,
revealed this during
an inaugural ‘meetthe-press’
initiative
held at Exim Bank
Auditorium in
Accra.
“The GFA will
soon announce a
deal with transport
giants STC to ensure
referees are
provided transportation
to and
fro match venues,”
he said.
This intervention,
when it finally
comes to fruition,
will form part of
measures put in
place by the GFA to improve the
welfare and working conditions of
Ghanaian referees. It is believed that
when the financial burdens of referees
are eased, it will be for them to
exhibit strict professionalism and
conduct themselves in a manner
that doesn’t impugn the integrity of
the game.
The Football Association disbursed
GHc300,000 to the Referees
Association of Ghana, before the
start of the 2019/2020 season as
part-payment of debt owed by the
previous administration.
