most important considerations when moving house.

Why would you Relocate and Move House?

You may not live near family and friends any more and have decided this is now important to you

You may have moved away from home for work previously and have now decided you want to move back to be with

family and friends

You may not like the area you live in any more and want to move to a city where you have amenities on your

doorstep

City life isn’t for everyone and you may now want to move into a more rural area

You may have, or be thinking about having a family and you are now considering schools or colleges for your

children

You may need to relocate for work and have a choice about a particular area you can move to in the UK

Newcastle is now a big and vibrant city and some people decide that it’s not for them any more and they now want

to move to the outskirts of the city, or relocate to a completely different part of the country and the most difficult

decision you will have is deciding the area you want to move to.

We all have our reasons for wanting to move house and our article tells you about the Best Places to Live in Britain

as named by the Sunday Times.

When it comes to moving house it really depends on your priorities and reasons for moving; you might be looking to

move to a location with better employment opportunities, more rural living, close to amenities or near to better

schools and colleges. Always remember when looking at areas you may want to move to, as well as viewing houses

to always keep referring back to your priorities and reasons for moving so they don’t get lost along the way.

The Sunday Times has now named the Best Places to Live in Britain for 2019 which have been assessed using many

different factors including; jobs, schools, community spirit and shops, as well as gaining local input and feedback

(information for this article has been sourced from The Sunday Times Best Places to Live in Brittain for 2019).

The Sunday Times Best Places to Live 2019

Salisbury in Wiltshire is the Sunday Times overall winner for 2019. Salisbury is probably most famous for its

Cathedral and for the Salsbury Plains. It is a beautiful city with a captivating history and it has been welcoming

travellers and visitors since 1227. It has a thriving marketplace, with Nando’s located in a medieval home and the

Odeon cinema in a ’15th-century’ building and it has some of the best and most ‘outstanding’ schools in the

southwest. Some of England’s finest historic houses and heritage buildings have been brought back to life in

Salsbury with arts, culture, events and entertainment. Every year the world-renowned Salisbury International Arts

Festival takes place which fills the city’s streets with an array of attractions and events for all ages. It takes just an

hour and a half to get to London on the train and you can be on the sandy coastline of Poole Harbour in just 50

minutes, making it an ideal location to live and still explore further afield.

Newcastle Relocation – Best in the East

Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk is surrounded by countryside with 1,000 years of history to explore. From its pastelcoloured

cottages, timbered houses to Georgian squares, the cobbled medieval streets of this market town are

really breathtaking. It is a friendly and lively location with award-winning restaurants, fantastic shopping, annual

festivals, and stunning parks to explore. You can eat and drink at award-winning restaurants, gastropubs and cafés,

shop to your heart’s content in its independent boutiques and leading high street stores and enjoy a huge range of

leisure activities, including spas, swimming, golf and tennis. You can walk or cycle through picturesque parks,

woodland and meadows and enjoy the peaceful and beautiful open spaces of the Abbey Gardens, Nowton Park,

West Stow Country Park and Ickworth Park and Gardens.

Isle of Dogs in London was once a rural and relatively wild area of marshland that was mainly used for animal

pasture, however, it is now the financial hub of London. Home to the impressive skyscrapers of Canary Wharf it has

seen some massive changes and events over the centuries and shows how new and old London now live side by

side. The Isle of Dogs was once populated entirely by dockers; the notorious Millwall FC started out here and most

Londoners have never set foot here, however, it is less than 15 minutes by DLR from the City and is a hidden, tranquil

riverside retreat that feels worlds apart from the capital. The Thames Path is lined with converted wharf buildings,

parks and majestic views back to the City and of Greenwich and on a sunny day, it can feel like the Riviera with

walkers ambling along enjoying the views and joggers running past the smart low-rise flats, just a stone’s throw

away from bustling central London.

Best in the Midlands for if Relocating from Newcastle

Edale in Derbyshire is a is a small village and civil parish at the start/end of the Pennine Way in the Peak District

which is popular with walkers and runners due to its beauty and accessibility. The village is home to just 300 people

from all walks of life who live and work in the valley making up a vibrant community that has different clubs and

social groups for anything from horticulture to amateur dramatics. It is a rural community and known for its fun,

friendliness and enthusiasm and everyone who lives in the village who wants one is offered a part in the annual

village panto. Despite its remote location and stunning surroundings, Edale is easily accessible and just 30 minutes

away from both Manchester and Sheffield with a regular train service that stops in the village. Lauren Dempsey

(town planner) says; “there is so much space here and the night skies are amazing, however, it’s still a proper living,

working village where people of all ages and all political persuasions get together to work on some project or

another, or just to have a good time”.

Best in the North and North East for Relocation

York in North Yorkshire is a city of incredible contrasts and exciting discoveries where old meets new and grand

Holywood is all about the outdoors; you can take a boat out at one of the two yacht clubs, walk or cycle the coast

path to Bangor, alongside the glistening Belfast Lough, or sign up for one of the many rugby, football and golf clubs.

North of England offering a lively Victorian street atmosphere from street entertainers, demonstrations and street

vendors.

Best in Scotland for Newcastle Relocation

Dundee has become one of the coolest and attractive cities in the UK in the past year and the opening of the V&A –

Victoria and Albert Museum of Design with its half ship, half rock-face exterior and its welcoming cafe, studios and

event spaces has given it a new cultural vibe, bringing visitors from all over the world to the shores of the River Tay.

It was the first-ever design museum built in the UK outside of London and was designed by renowned Japanese

architect Kengo Kuma and is positioned next to the RSS Discovery of Antarctica fame. Dundee’s stunning south

facing position offers more sunshine hours than any other city in Scotland, along with great walking and cycle

routes along the banks of the River Tay. You can visit the miles of sandy beach at former fishing village Broughty

Ferry, see the dolphins, or take part in some kite surfing and sailing. The city centre is compact and everyone is

extremely friendly, you can take a stroll and visit one of the many independent shops or cafes, or wander up to the

West End and visit some great restaurants and bars. All of these factors have resulted in Dundee now being seen as

Scotland’s new and affordable creative heartland which has been transformed from a run-down industrial relic into a

vibrant city.

Best in the South East for Relocation

Petworth in West Sussex is a picturesque market town nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park, an

area of outstanding natural beauty and just over an hour’s drive from London and only 30 minutes from the south

coast. The town has many treasures to discover with an immaculate selection of historic houses; brick, stone,

whitewashed, medieval, Georgian and Victorian buildings that are all located off the market square. The surrounding

South Downs countryside is enchanting and unspoilt and is kept that way under the protection of the Leconfield

Estate and national park status. It has a strong reputation as a leading antique town and the antique shops are in

plentiful supply with over 30 across the town, now joined by new galleries and food shops to add to its appeal.

Best in the South West for Newcastle Relocation

Topsham in Devon is close to Exeter and has a fascinating past. Starting as a Roman Fortress the town then grew

during the Medieval because of its sheltered harbour. Seventeenth-century Dutch gabled mansions and rows of

former dockworkers’ cottages are reminders that this was once Britain’s second busiest and thriving port and

shipbuilding centre. The quaint historic town has a cosmopolitan atmosphere including long-standing restaurants

such as the Galley and Marcello’s, and historic inns like the Salutation, along with a new array of specialist shops

and fine, award-winning restaurants. It offers a vibrant mix of boutiques and galleries to while away the hours, and

wonderful views and breathtaking sunsets above the estuary. The estuary mudflats and Bowling Green Marsh RSPB

Reserve are home to a vast array of water-birds which many people come from miles around to see. It has a

charming passenger ferry which takes passengers and bikes across the Exe for amazing walks and pub lunches at

two idyllic waterside pubs and you can also take short or long cruises to discover the wildlife of the Exe estuary or to

Exmouth’s sandy beaches.

Best in Wales for Newcastle Relocation

Crickhowell in Powys is a small town and community in southeastern Powys, Wales, near Abergavenny. It is a pretty

town located on the River Usk, on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. To the north lies the Black

Mountains but it is the river and the stunning, and glorious beauty of the Usk valley that make Crickhowell such a

beautiful place. The market town has the best high street in the UK thanks to its enterprising locals and

Crickhowell’s high street was named the best in Britain last year. When the shops are opening and you’ll see; Mr

Cashell the butcher pulling down his striped awning, while in Askew’s bakery, they stack their bread and bara brith.

Webb’s, a pleasingly old-fashioned family-run department store still deliver to their local customers, and the Bear is

an authentic coaching inn with wood-panelled bars. There’s a post office, Grenfell’s & Sons greengrocers, a

newsagent, a gallery, a couple of craft shops and an essential outdoor-clothing emporium. It is a picturesque town

that you can while away the hours in the local shops or take a walk and take in the beautiful scenery and views for

miles around.

Remember, Consider and Do when you are Moving House or Considering

Relocating from Newcastle

Throughout your moving process, you should always be really clear about and not forget; why you are moving, what

your ‘must have’s’ are for your new home as well as what you are willing to compromise on. It’s really easy to get

carried away with things and fall in love with a property when it doesn’t tick all of your boxes, and this will be a very

expensive mistake later down the line.

Moving house can take anything from 6 weeks to 12 month’s depending on yours, your buyers, your sellers

situations and how long your buying chain is. The first part to moving house is putting your house on the market if

you have one to sell. Most people won’t accept an offer from you unless your existing property is under offer so we

would always advise that you; research the area and type of house you are looking for to make sure there are ones

available on the market that are in your price range. Don’t view houses for sale unless you have had an offer on

yours as it will be heartbreaking if you find a house that you love and then someone else makes an offer that’s

accepted.
