West Park’s Panini’s Bar and Grill, in the heart of Kamm’s Corners, will offer a full service menu with a variety of sandwiches, salads, wraps, pizzas, and their famous overstuffed sandwiches, as well as a children’s menu. She was selected to take part in the 5th Cohort Multicultural Executive Development Program (MEDP) through the YMCA of the USA. Through a comprehensive application, narrative essay, resume and other supporting documents, the selection committee felt that Monic embodied potential qualities to become a successful leader in the YMCA Movement. Jerome Masek, who has been a certified hypnotist in West Park since 2005, has been elected to the Board of the newly formed Cleveland Chapter of the American Holistic Medical Association (AHMA). Congratulations to Constellation West Park Community Middle School on the September completion of the long anticipated two-story addition to the school building located at 16210 Lorain Avenue. The $3 million dollar addition includes a full-sized gym and 11 new classrooms to accommodate the rapid growth of the public charter school. May this issue of Kamm’s Corners Magazine be the start of a healthy and happy holiday season. The recent election came and went with yet another strong showing in our ward, soon to be known as Ward 19. On January 4th, most of what was Ward 21 will be called Ward 19. We lost some neighbors to the southeast and gained others to the northeast. Feel free to call me if you have any questions on the redistricting. Simply put, I am honored and blessed to represent the neighborhoods I love for another term in City Council, whatever our ward number. Looking back at last year’s holiday magazine, I am amazed that the groundbreaking for the Lorain Avenue Streetscape was the cover feature and occurred November 6, 2008. We have come a long way since then. Our downtown Kamm’s Corners is being reinvented. The removal of the power lines alone is a huge improvement. The addition of new sidewalks, planters, benches, and lighting will attract more businesses and economic development opportunities. Of course, the new infrastructure is an attraction to our community. But, more importantly, the people who call West Park home are the real reason businesses locate here – we who remain committed to shopping locally and to maintaining our properties. I can guarantee you that the small business owners along Lorain Avenue, Rocky River Drive, and Warren Road – the shop keepers at Warren Village and Kamms Plaza shopping centers will tell you the same thing. Our commitment to our neighbors, our neighborhood, and our local merchants is the best way to assure our long-term success. Puritas Avenue re-surfacing is nearly complete. Getting this project done using our own capital dollars in such a difficult economy was no small feat! Thanks to everyone for their patience during construction. Please remember to maintain the speed limit when the road is nice and smooth and the barrels are gone. Also, no matter what street you live on, for safety’s sake, please refrain from putting your leaves and snow in the street. Yes, we are making great progress here and have the continued support of Mayor Jackson. However, the City of Cleveland as a whole is facing some serious financial challenges. A significant budgetary shortfall looms in fiscal year 2010. Though efficiency measures and belt-tightening efforts by Mayor Jackson and City Council to cut costs while maintaining service has left us in a much better position than other cities, difficult decisions remain. The draft budget for the City is due in December followed by the Mayor’s Estimated Budget for 2010 in February. Those budget exercises will determine what we are up against and what we need to do to thrive. Perhaps I covered too much in this little column. What I wish most to say is Happy Holidays!
