Dear Parishioners of St. Wenceslaus,
I want to congratulate our First Communicants and their parents
and teachers on a beautiful First Communion Sunday. We had two
wonderful Masses (10:30 and 1:00 p.m.) to celebrate Holy Communion
with our 2nd graders. They were well trained and executed their
procession, petitions, gift-bearing, singing, and recessional beautifully.
I hope their First Eucharistic experience will be a wonderful remembrance
for them during their entire lives.
M AY 6 , 2 0 1 2
This weekend we begin our annual Charity and Stewardship
Appeal. Please note that the Charity and Stewardship appeal helps to
support many worthwhile diocesan services, but it also DIRECTLY supports our parish by
returning to us 80% or our gifts after we have meet our diocesan goal. Our goal is a little over
$58,000 of which a little over $11,000 is kept by the diocese for their services provided in a
wide range of offering to the youth, college students, the underprivileged, and services to
people of all ages. Our charity helps many people throughout the diocese known but to God.
This means that if we meet or surpass our goal and pledges and gifts are paid, the parish
would collect nearly $50,000 in payment rebates from the Charity and Stewardship Appeal.
The more we give, the more we get--literally!
As I mentioned two weeks ago, we have a little over $22,000 in pledges left outstanding
in the 5th rebate period of the 2011-2012 Charity and Stewardship Appeal. If those pledges
were completely paid up, the ENTIRE amount would be given to our parish! A $20,000+
rebate would be a tremendous help to the parish during the lean summer months. Thank you
for your support over the past year, and may God inspire your generosity for the 2012-2013
Charity and Stewardship Appeal. (Note: One thing I would suggest is, if you make your gift in
a series of pledges over the year, to have your payments to the program automatically taken
from your checking or savings account. I do. It is a tremendously easy and painless way to
make your payments. You never miss what you don't have. If you want to do that kind of
payment plan, it can be arranged on your pledge sheet. You'll be surprised how much easier
life can be with that kind of payment system.
The house at 248 East 2nd Street is gone! Thanks to a great many workers this week
who made a huge job seem to go very quickly. It won't be long before you will be able to park
there for Sunday or Weekday Mass.
I had the crucifix, given to the parish by the group from the Diocese of Jerusalem, hung
on the East Wall of the church beneath the window of St. Wenceslaus. It was a gift to the
people of the parish, and I thought that was a place we could all view it and use it for meditation.
In case you didn't hear, the "relics" in the four ends of the cross are 1. Incense from
Bethlehem, 2. Soil from the Holy Land, 3. Flower petals from the Garden of Gethsemane,
4. Palm leaves from Jerusalem. A beautiful remembrance of our Catholic brothers and sister
in the Holy Land!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
