By Paul Olayemi
SAPELE—THE 37-year-old
man, Mr Ujemu Omena,
who refused medical treatment for
his 22-month-old baby girl
suffering from hydrocephalus, a
rare medical condition
characterised by head
enlargement in infants, in Sapele,
Delta State, has reportedly fled
home with the child.
A family source told Vanguard:
“Precious, the child was born with
hydrocephalus and the parents,
who were newly married then
noticed that the baby’s head was
getting larger.
“Having noticed this, they
started running from pillar to
post, only to find out the illness
was hydrocephalus, partly
because of money and religious
belief, the parents have refused
to seek medical help, they are
Jehovah Witnesses and he said
their faith forbids blood
transfusion.”
On Monday, Gwamnishu
Harrison, an activist, having been
informed of the child’s condition
on a Facebook news platform,
Sapele Unugbragada, stormed
the home of Mr Ujemu offering
to foot the child's medical bills but
to his surprise, Ojemu turned
down the offer, citing religious
belief, a decision that has attracted
condemnations from social media
users.
Today, Ujemu was said to have
fled his Benin Road residence
opposite Urhiapele Secondary
School home with the baby.
The council chairman, Eugene
The baby
Inoaghan, who stormed little
Precious father's residence told
Vanguard that he was at little
Precious father’s house to retrieve
her from them for treatment only
to find out he has fled his home
with the baby.
Kidnapped native doctor kicks against
spiritual back-up for criminals
By Eric Ugbor
ABA—A popular native doctor
based in Aba, Abia State,
Chukwuemeka Emeueonu, who
was released from the den of
kidnappers last week has kicked
against the spiritual backup given
to kidnappers by some native doctors
Emeyeonu, who was kidnapped
by gunmen on February 1, 2020,
warned all the native doctors and
anybody involved in sponsoring or
empowering kidnappers to desist
from it or face the consequences that
will soon come.
The native doctor, who was
rescued by a team of Special Anti
Robbery Squad, SARS, led by their
Commander, SP Johnbull
Obioguru, from the den of the
kidnappers six hours after his
abduction, thanked SARS for their
prompt response.
Emeyeonu, who is the high priest
of the popular Chukwuabiama
Heritage Synagogue in Aba,
advised those involved in
kidnapping to repent from such evil,
stressing that using the bad
economy as an excuse to perpetrate
crime is meaningless.
The kidnap of Emeyeonu was
widely reported within Aba as two
“We are doing all we can to get
her for medication but the father
said he is far away but we will do
everything we can to reach him
and retrieve the baby for
treatment,” he said.
kidnappers involved in the evil act
were killed during the exchange of
fire with the SARS with some others
reportedly arrested later.
In his words: “The experience of
my kidnap opened my eyes to
something that is happening
around us. This issue of kidnapping,
when you hear it in the news, you
may not understand, but when it
happens to you, you’ll become a
changed person.
"I must thank the SARS from
Umuahia for the way they
responded promptly and during the
exchange of bullets with the
hoodlums, I was hearing how their
leader was instructing them to be
careful as not to hurt us the victims”
Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay
handed down the verdict after
finding him guilty of the offence of
The convict was arraigned on a
one-count charge of murder
preferred against him by Lagos
State prosecutor, Mr Yusuf Sule,
had told the court that Raimi
committed the offence on June 10,
which led to his death.
According to the prosecutor, the
offence committed is punishable
under Section 319 (1) of the criminal
law of Lagos sate 2003.
However, the convict pleaded not
guilty to the charge against him, but
his plea was not taken as he was
remanded in prison custody,
