There will be a wide varietyof stalls, home-baking, face painting, tombola, preserves, whiteelephant, toys, raffle prizes, plants and much more.The Plant Stall is always on the lookout for donations; when youare in the garden preparing for planting please don’t forget shrubs,cuttings etc. are always welcome at the plant stall. Clydemuirshiel isone of the most popular visitor attractions inRenfrewshire, and certainly one which we as afamily used to frequent, particularly when our sonwas small. The decision was taken recently at thefull council meeting of Renfrewshire Council as theprevious Convener had to stand down for various reasons.Council budgets are very tight; it is not just always aboutmoney but a new approach to things. As someone who was inthe leisure field for nearly forty years in Renfrewshire, I think Ihave a particular skills set which means a fresh pair of eyes maysee opportunities for development that have been overlookedbefore. For example, I want to meet as many community groupsas possible that are within the ambit of the Park boundary toget their views on the way forward, but I would also welcomeviews from residents in Houston, Crosslee, and Brookfield onhow they would like to see the Park develop.But Clydemuirshiel is not just important as a leading leisureattraction, although it is one of the top three visitor attractionsin Renfrewshire, there is also a massive moral duty for us allto re-green our communities as a way of facing the climatechallenge and the Park is key in this. Wehave recently been awarded funding from Sustrans for afeasibility study to look at connecting Houston with Bridgeof Weir via a shared use path as well as the network withinHouston. This would also give our residents access to theNational Cycle Network Route 7 and would also encouragelocal journeys between the two areas as well as improved linksto the High School. A further benefit would be that it wouldalso encourage visitors to our village.The second is a pico-hydro electricity generating unit on theHouston Burn in the woodland opposite the Houston andKillellan Kirk. The construction costs would be met by grantsfrom the Scottish Government and the electricity generatedwould be sold to the National Grid. Both a feasibility studyand an environmental impact study have been completed andare favourable. All future profits would be used for projects tobenefit our village and its residents.We invite all residents of Houston whose main residence fallswithin the Community Council Catchment Area to come alongto a Public Consultation Event to be held in the Carrick Centre,Main Street, Houston on Sunday 26th April 2020 between1.30pm and 5pm. Members of Houston Community Council willbe there to answer your questions and listen to your views.
