Dear Friends,
It is an honor and pleasure to present reGeneration Education’s 2019 Annual Report. With humility and profound
gratitude, we are pleased to report that this past year has been a remarkable one of service, connection, building, and
rebuilding.
Right before the start of 2019, the President and Founder of reGeneration Education, Shepha Vainstein, lost her home
of 40 years in Southern California's Woolsey Fire. The devastation left by the fire brought home in the most personal
way the challenges faced by families in crisis zones. It is our deepest wish that we harness the lessons learned from the
Woolsey Fire to serve children in crisis zones better and build a foundation for peace.
With that in mind, we continue to deepen our relationships with our partner schools in Israel and Palestine and find
ways to increase the number of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim children who benefit from trauma-informed education
in the Middle East. We are also disseminating these best practices cultivated around the globe by rolling out traumainformed
teacher training for Los Angeles-area educators.
On the domestic front, reGeneration Education very successfully launched the Los Angeles Abrahamic Faith Student
Leadership program with local Jewish, Christian, and Muslim middle school students. Inspired by shared Abrahamic
teachings of altruism, these students are developing new friendships while working together to address the growing
problem of homelessness in Los Angeles.
At reGeneration, we promote a culture of peace through community building and fostering resilient children in crisis
zones. Enclosed in this report, you will see details of our many activities and accomplishments. We encourage you to
review these materials thoroughly. If you have any questions, please feel welcome to reach out.
Our success depends on you. Working together, we will dare to create opportunities for the most vulnerable children
to thrive.
Sincerely,
Shepha Schneirsohn Vainstein M.A. LMFT

ADDRESSING
CHILDHOOD TOXIC STRESS

Education
Toxic stress is detrimental to aspirations for peace. Outside
of the home, we believe children are best protected from
toxic stress in loving school environments. In the Middle
East, we launch and sustain schools that help Jewish,
Christian, and Muslim children overcome stress-induced
learning obstacles.
In 2019, reGeneration partnered with House of Hope school
in Area C of the West Bank. reGeneration Education fully
funded 20 scholarships for low income House of Hope
students and, in keeping with our legacy of investing in
emerging Middle Eastern Waldorf teachers, a two-year
scholarship for House of Hope's Educational Director to
earn a Bachelor of Education at David Yellin Academic
College Waldorf program.

school in the West Bank. Thanks to reGeneration's investment,
Narineh has access to therapeutic early education.
.
Soon after entering into partnership with reGeneration, the
Palestinian Authority Ministry of Education recognized
House of Hope as the first and only Arabic-language
Waldorf kindergarten in the West Bank.
In neighboring Israel, where Jews, Palestinians, and Arabs
live in fear, separation, and violence, we work hard to foster
inclusion and equality through trauma-informed and
bilingual education.
Tamrat El Zeitoun, located in the northern town of
Shfar’am, is the only Arabic language Waldorf school in
Israel. With reGeneration, school leaders are designing a
five year plan to implement trauma-informed teaching
methods that give educators helpful, culturally competent
tools for working with youth experiencing stress.
At reGeneration's network of bilingual Waldorf
kindergartens, we continue to build partnership between all
citizens of Israel and bridge gaps in educational equity. . A Jewish kindergarten student (above) from Bustan Abraham, a bilingual

TRAINING CRISIS-ZONE
READY TEACHERS
In 2019, reGeneration made history by uniting
professors at David Yellin Academic College in
Israel with Palestinian educators in the West
Bank. Together, they designed a cross-border
teacher training for communities lacking access
to culturally competent and trauma-informed
teaching styles.
reGeneration also worked to cross-pollinate
teaching best practices around the globe. In Los
Angeles, reGeneration is implementing the
United Nations endorsed Essence of Learning
training program. Essence of Learning trains
teachers who work with students growing up in
crisis zones. Teachers are informed of the
traumatic experiences their students face and
how to respond with compassionate
educational methods so that children thrive in
the classroom.

BUILDING A SCHOOL-LED
PEACE MOVEMENT
With reGeneration, parents and teachers from estranged Abrahamic faith communities in the Middle East and the United
States come together to do what's best for their children. Whether at after-school bilingual parent listening circles in the
Galilee or planning committees for Los Angeles interfaith youth leadership projects, reGeneration and its partners unite
adults from increasingly polarized communities who would not normally meet.
.
"My child will grow up to be a person with less fears and stereotypes than I. His
Arab friends will also be able to grow up seeing the representative of the
neighboring culture as a person like any other. These people will be able to live
with each other in peace. Not because of a certain ideology, however, but
stemming from an innate truth."

In our interfaith movement, we model what
can be done if Jews, Christians, and Muslims
work together. Our approach to interfaith
bridge building emphasizes restorative
communication among children, parents, and
teachers.
In 2019, we launched the Abrahamic Faith
Student Leadership Team that brought three
Los Angeles area Abrahamic faith schools
together for a year-long interfaith student
leadership program.
