Painting, according to Wikipedia, is the
practice of applying paint, pigment, or
other medium to a surface.
The medium is commonly applied to the
base with a brush but other implements,
such as knives, sponges, and airbrushes,
can be used.
Painting describes both the act and the
result of the action. Paintings may have for
their support surfaces as walls, paper,
canvas, wood, glass, lacquer, clay, leaf,
copper or concrete, and may incorporate
other materials including sand, clay, paper,
plaster, gold leaf as well as objects.
Painting is a mode of creative expression,
and the forms are numerous. Drawing,
gesture, composition, narration, or
abstraction, among other aesthetic modes,
may serve to manifest the expressive and
conceptual intention of the practitioner.
Paintings can be naturalistic and
representational, photographic, abstract, be
loaded with narrative content, symbolistic ,
emotive, or be political in nature.

The oldest consumer magazine still in print is
The Scots Magazine, which was first published
in 1739, though multiple changes in ownership
and gaps in publication totaling over 90 years
weaken that claim. Lloyd's List was founded in
Edward Lloyd's England coffee shop in 1734; it
is still published as a daily business newspaper.
According to statistics from the end of 2013,
subscription levels for 22 of the top 25
magazines declined from 2012 to 2013, with
just Time, Glamour and ESPN The Magazine
gaining numbers.
