What is keeping you?

In the face of COVID-19, travel bans, school/university closings, ban of groups over 10,

how are you coping with the added stress? Do you take all these in stride? Or does it seem

to make you uneasy, maybe even trigger your anxiety? Well, I do realize that it is a very

different time for us all, and that is why I feel led to share. I am pretty sure there will be more

ebbs and flows in the journey.

Last Sunday, my Pastor brought a message on the passage in Philippians 4:4-7. If you will

allow me, I would love to break this down as I see it pertains to homeschoolers.

It begins with “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” Even when we are told

to stay home and can’t do co-op, sports, or play date? Even when we feel cut off from our

friends and family? Even when the churches are closing? Yes, what is it that brings you joy

in these activities? If it is the connection you feel, then talk to them on the phone, facetime

or Skype with them, or send them emails/messages. Keep those connections strong.

These relationships will help to keep both parties encouraged, and feeling invigorated and

enlightened!

“Let your moderation be known unto all men.” I almost feel like this needs no explanation.

I am sure that we have all seen the empty shelves in the stores. Do you feel everyone only

took what they needed? This is also true when we are not in the midst of pandemic times.

“The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing;” As we run our homes and school, we strive to

not be stressed or full of care. According to W. H Davies in his poem Leisure, he states, A

poor life this if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare.” Specifically, full of care

means devoting all your time and energy to that which one perceives as necessary or as

duty, without enjoying that which is beautiful. Did you see the beauty of your family, at

home, learning, bonding and expressing themselves? How about the beauty of spring?

Maybe something as simple as the beauty of their favorite story time? Make sure you take

the time to share the beautiful things with your children.

“but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made

known unto God.” We have a hotline that goes straight to God. All we need to do is pray

and ask Him. He is a loving God and wants to bless us!

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds

through Christ Jesus.” For me to know that this peace shall keep my heart and mind through

Christ, Jesus makes me feel as if I have superpowers. No strength required. No extreme

speed. No higher level of intelligence. All that is required, is that I allow myself to be under His

care, in the palm of His hand. That is what is keeping me...what is keeping you? If you need

some help with this, please feel free to reach out to me personally, I would love to share His

peace with you today!

Resting in Him,

Rose Faubush is FEAST’s new Curriculum Advisor.

She is here to support families new to homeschooling by

providing orientations and helping with curriculum

Rose is a wife, mom, and homeschool teacher of her

soon-to-be high school graduate. She is a retired

public school teacher who spent most of her years

as a writing specialist and reading intervention

teacher until she and husband decided to start

homeschooling their son when he was in 5th grade.

BIBLE

Here we are on the cusp of an ending school year when life

throws us a curve-ball! These are perilous times I hear many

passerbyers say, and this is true, but one thing I do know, and

that is GOD is in control! In this year of 2020, we have had

many changes, and journeys that we have embarked. Such as

the ending of one Co-op, that has been in operation for more

than three decades to the birth of a new one, that is being led

by seasoned teachers and veteran homeschoolers. This is an

amazing transition! FACET took on this challenge, and if there

was any fear, it was replaced with enthusiasm.

When we got the word that area schools were closing, FEAST

Co-op followed in suit. We didn’t collapse into a panic but

found solutions. We are homeschoolers, after all, and this is what

we do! It is very encouraging to know that as Christians, we can

always stand on the faith of GOD’s WORD to pull us through

even in the darkest hour. Many times it is through adverse

situations and tragedies that we find a strength that we didn’t

know we had. Yes, we’ve had Y2K, 911, and now COVID-19.

This too shall pass, and we’ll learn a little more about ourselves.

Our students still have the ability to learn, move on to the next

grade level, graduate high school, and move on to college.

This occurrence will be another event for the history books. As

we continue to work through all the necessary changes, we

ask that you extend as much grace as you possibly can. Let’s

continue to work together as a family as we look forward to the

next school year. Things may not always work out the way we

plan, but GOD always has bigger plans.

Thank you for the LOVE and Support that you have shown Rosie

and me. It has been a privilege and joy to serve as your Co-op

Coordinators this school year!

UNDERPINNINGS - FOSSILS,

PHYSICS AND GENETICS

How do you make a fossil? The Bible’s

explanation for that is far more scientifically

plausible than what archaeologists push

as fact today. The Bible identified the

Laws of Thermodynamics and Biogenesis

thousands of years before man ever

figured out that God set these immutable

laws in motion on this planet. The Earth

is possibly the most special place in the

universe in spite of propaganda to the

contrary. We will examine how special.

Finally, what we are finding in the field

of genetics fits far better into the Bible’s

paradigm of the “created kinds” rather

than the evolutionary theory. We will

examine all of this wondrous knowledge in

the Bible, which is only now being verified

and discovered by modern science.

There will always be trials in life. We need God’s

strength to get us through. It is not easy to do in the

hard times, but we all need eternal perspective

and the habit of focusing on the good that can

come from tough times. When we take our eyes

off the trial and on God, we can learn from the

challenges and ultimately be thankful.

James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when ye

FEAST hosted our first picnic for the 1000 Hour Playtime Challenge. This is an initiative to

get families outside and active. It is estimated that the average American child spends

1200 hours per year on screen time. Wouldn’t it be great if we could devote 1000 hours of

outdoor time to walking in our neighborhoods, visiting parks, walking trails, campsites, and

places that help us enjoy the beauty of God’s creation?

We enjoyed the picnic with families who are making the commitment to get outside. While

they were here at FEAST, they got to play games together, walk the trails in the Denman

Estate Park, and of course, enjoy a picnic.

So, resolve as a family to get out, get active, and enjoy time together. For more information

FEAST hosted a training for leaders where they were able to come and glean from

one of the nation’s best advisors on the critical balance of homeschool leadership

demands and best practices for homeschool organizations. With 19 leaders in

attendance, they were able to discuss face to face with Carol any questions or

concerns they had about issues specific to their group. It was a relaxing and fun time as

all leaders were given a jar of honey donated by Eddie Priest and a drawing for a $99

message, donated by Ruth Perez. The perfect gift for support group leaders.

If you are a leader who was not available to come to the workshop, please feel free to

LETTER FROM THE ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATOR

THE CAR RIDE HOME PART 6: PATIENCE

By Mark McGuire

The car ride home is an experience that helps define a parent /

child relationship. Here are six topics that have helped me improve

myself, understand my son better and allowed him to challenge

himself to be the best athlete he can be. This is your sixth ride sitting

in the backseat of my car listening in on our relationship. And if

you’re wondering… yes, he did agree to everything written.

Why your patience is a huge key with your child.

A while back I spoke with a high performance coach who also

happened to be a scout for a Major League club. He observed for

many years the anxiety parents struggle with as they watch their

kids develop in the game.

He asked me to write something on patience. He just wished

parents could be more patient with their young athletes and the

process. He wished parents could understand that some kids are

not skilled or mentally tough enough for professional baseball.

They may be more suited to different levels of college or being a

valuable player on a state or club team.

It’s very hard to see clearly where our child sits in the big scheme

of things—next to impossible, actually. I like to think I have an

understanding of my son but I know I’m blinded. If I applied the

odds of my son making it to the top I should be locked up. I’d be

allowing him to throw away years of his life striving for a goal that

only 6% of those signed professionally ever achieve: playing on a

major league field. That’s why young athletes are encouraged to

have backup plans.

I justify my son’s position: he’s an "all or nothing" guy. I also know

that’s my characteristic, so I don’t know how much it’s me

projecting or him believing it himself. I tell others he’s shooting for

the stars and when he falls—as everyone falls at some point—that

although the fall will be hard and discouraging, family will be there

to support him.

Focus on

SPORTS

There must be calmness and a resolute smile about our long suffering. Yes, long

suffering: an old English interpretation of what patience means. A parent once said to

me, “We need to happily suffer together on the sideline."

Be realistic. This sounds hypocritical coming from a parent who encourages his kid on

a reckless adventure, but I’ve received feedback of where my kid sits in comparison

to others skill wise, mentally, and in work ethic. I’ve been offended by some truths and

wanted to be defensive. Fortunately, I chose to say nothing, feel the internal suffering,

and take it as positive input for my son to learn from.

Bottom line, if I don’t show patience, if I don’t seek realistic input from outsiders who

can observe my son better than myself, I am only holding him back. It’s a hard truth to

swallow.

Allow your child to become a better you.

Allow your child to find their way.

With patience they will listen to you. With impatience they will ignore you.

For more information on FEAST Athletics contact our Athletic Administrator,

Sherri Kunkel at feast athletics@homeschoolfeast.com

This is his reckless adventure.

If my wife and I are impatient then we can’t keep him on track.

Meanwhile, he won’t listen to our words when we do have

something to say.

Varsity baseball traveled to the Houston area for a DH against

the HCYA Eagles. Luke Batey, was brilliant on the bump, as

he threw a no-hitter with a winning score of 1-0! The Patriots

5 game win-streak began with an errorless victory against

Cigarroa in Laredo at the Border Olympics Tournament. The

Patriots’ reign continued as they were crowned Champions

at the Peter Garza Invitational in San Marcos. Varsity put up

six runs in the fourth inning. Thomas Yost, Holden Kennemer,

Will Muckleroy, and Aidan Meeks powered the big inning with

RBIs. Jackson Kennemer’s pitching was perfect, striking out ten

batters and not allowing a single run to score. Well done, Patriots!

After two months of practice, FEAST MS kicked off their season with their first

game and a big win against Concordia, 18-0! Pitchers, Tanner Gernenz, and

Trenton Otto, threw a combined shut-out. Gernenz surrendered zero runs on zero

hits, striking out five and walking one. Otto’s last out of the game ended with a

strikeout. The Patriots’ bats were strong at the plate with Asher Hubbard hitting

3 for 3 with a double and two singles. Bo Schott, Garrison Thomas, and Gernenz

also had multiple hits. Our MS boys stole fifteen bases with Andrew Meeks leading

the way with four stolen bases. We are excited for a great Middle School season!

feastbaseball@gmail.com

Patriot Softball started their season off a little slow, dropping

their first three games of the 2020 season.

The coaching staff knew that this year would be tough as

this team is loaded with underclassmen. With a few more

practices and some tweaking of the batting line up, the

team woke up.

Patriots have rattled off seven consecutive wins and finished

second in the annual FEAST Softball Tournament.

When asked about the turning point Coach, Doug simply said, “Confidence the girls

are playing with confidence. Our pitchers are throwing the ball with great control and

our hitters are seeing the ball big, which means balls being hit hard and usually for extra

bases."

Patriot Softball is planning to keep up the momentum through their last several games.

Patriot Softball Middle School kicked off its inaugural season with a dominant win over

their first opponent. The coaching staff is super excited about this young group of girls.

Although the season has not started for volleyball, we have

completed two full months of Off Season Skills Camp.

We are looking forward to some exciting plans in the

upcoming future! Stay tuned..

As the new commissioner for the 2020 season, I am thrilled with the plans we have in

motion. On Friday, March 6th, the volleyball leaders organized a FEAST Family Friday

event at Sideliners Grill. What made this extra special is we truly wanted to build

community among all FEAST Athletics so we invited the baseball and softball teams

to join us and we were excited we had others from track and basketball come out as

well.” We wanted to build community among all FEAST Athletics! We were excited to

see players attend from several other sports - basketball, track, and baseball among

the ones represented.

Our vision for the year is to grow our team in service, leadership, fellowship, and

competition. In doing all of that, we are not only coaching athletes, we are growing

women of character in Christ. Please follow us on Instagram as we post regularly to

keep everyone informed of what is happening on the volleyball court! We hope you

DO NOT FEAR! By Lauren Bettencourt

The FEAST Patriots have excelled so far in the season, with multiple

records broken in both High School and Middle School events

across the board. In Middle School, Grace Bettencourt broke the High jump record with

an astonishing jump of 5’4”. Grace returned alongside Mikayla Kidney, Jodi Daggett, and

Tori Neeley to break the 4x200 Meter Relay record with a time of 1:57.32. In High School,

Alexandra Lanoce broke the 400-meter record with a time of 60.75, and Lauren Bettencourt

broke the 800-meter record with a time of 2:13.65. In addition to these FEAST records, many

athletes have beaten their personal records. Congratulations to those who have ‘PR’ed in

their events.

As the season progresses, many had begun to look forward to the larger meets that were

quickly approaching. However, with the recent outbreak of COVID-19, many meets are

being delayed and canceled. Fear of the new virus has driven San Antonio residents to a

mass panic, and hand sanitizer has rapidly disappeared from general stores as the threat of

infection continues to impose on our daily lives. Despite the disappointment of cancellations

and fear of the disease, we must continue to persevere and remain patient in our season. As

frustrating as the cancellations are, we must all remember that the purpose of forgoing such

large events is to prevent the novel corona virus from spreading too fast for health officials to

handle. Please keep those affected by the Corona virus, in your prayers. Continue to pray for

a resolution to the Pandemic affecting our world.

Keep safe, and remember to wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face.

Again, congratulations to those who have excelled thus far in the season. Keep working

hard, and remember that our God’s love and power surpasses any threat we face in this

world. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will

strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10.

God bless!
