creation, eight indicates that the Torah belongs
to a realm that is beyond creation, an energy that
can liberate us from mundane desires that tend
to weigh us down and distract us from our core
purpose.
This publication is lovingly dedicated to the
Lubavitcher Rebbe ,זי"ע whose life and goals
mirrored those of his ancestor, David HaMelech.
His singular goal was simple, yet awe-inspiring;
to prepare the entire world for the coming of
Mashiach and the time when Hashem would be
recognized as the one and only G-d.
The Rebbe's 118th birthday will be observed on
Yud Alef (11) Nissan, (April 5.20), and in line
with the custom of the Baal Shem Tov, chapter
119 will be read in tribute to his living legacy on
a daily basis.
Perhaps, in honor of his birthday, we can try to
tap into the lessons and teachings of both King
David and our Rebbe in pursuit of our own
spiritual perfection and to prepare the world for
the imminent arrival of Mashiach.

FORWARD:
The Zohar teaches us that, “There is no service
like the service of love”.
While Mitzvot can be discharged as chores, it is
only when we serve Hashem with love that we
experience the true intention of Torah and its
Mitzvot - to connect us with Hashem.
For David HaMelech, this was not a mere lofty
ideal but a life-long journey. So meaningful was
this goal to him, that anything challenging it took
an emotional toll.
In Chapter 119, David Hamelech chronicles
his unique journey. He refers to the diverse
challenges that tested his devotion to Hashem
and how he clung tightly to the Torah, the
love of his life to stay the course. To illustrate
this immense love, he fondly refers to the
Torah through many code words that point
to the multifaceted aspects of the Torah and
its teachings. In this new and user-friendly
translation, these code words appear in italics.
This renowned Psalm is comprised of 176
verses, eight for each letter of the Aleph-Bet.
