I dedicate this comic book to my mother
and my aunt because they’re the reason
that I got into comics. They encouraged
me to follow my dream of becoming an
artist. They inspired me not to give up
just because of learning obstacles but
to make it into a challenge that I can
overcome. Even now, my family is my
biggest support system. So, thank you,
thank you for the love and support that
you have given me.

My name is Julien Wilks; I grew up
in Milwaukee. The neighborhood
I grew up in was not the best area.
I didn’t play outside a lot. So I had
to find a pasttime to keep me busy.
My family always wanted the best
for me. They encourage me to find
something constructive to do with
my time. They always talked about
me working to achieve my goals,
and getting an education.
The reason I made this comic is that I love
to draw. It’s my favorite hobby. After reading
so many comics, I noticed that some of my
drawings were similar to the graphic artist
that I’ve seen. One of my favorites, when I
was a child, was my first comics, the Calvin
and Hobbes series by Bill Watterson. I enjoyed
Calvin and his “best friend” Hobbes
going through their adventures. Looking at
the simplicity and detail encouraged me to
try my hand at drawing. I so learned that I
enjoyed drawing so much that it inspired me
to become an artist. I’ve seen so many comic
books and it gave me the impetus to focus on
becoming a graphic book artist.
