Roger spent his final six months of duty at the Coast
Guard air station in Port Angeles, Washington, elbow-deep
in engines at the Boats and Vehicles Shop. He registered his
Honorable Discharge from the United States Armed Services
with the State of Oregon on February 27, 1961, settled in at his
parents’ home in Portland, and immediately set out to look
for work.
His hunt for employment continued as the winds of March
became April’s gentle rain, transforming into May flowers. Day
