Roger had no burning desire to make the Coast Guard
a career, but if he had to re-enlist, he intended to take full
advantage of the offer. As June roses began to bud and bloom,
delighting the senses with their vibrant colors and heady
aroma, Roger resigned himself to the inevitable and packed
his sea bag.
Fortune unexpectedly smiled on day eighty-eight. The job
at Freightliner Truck Company wasn't his first choice, but it
was a beginning and that was all he’d ever wanted. What he
did with it was up to him. Gleeful, he donated his uniforms to
Goodwill and drew a deep, cleansing breath. For the first time
in a long while, Roger Henneous felt like a free man.
