JIM LEFFLER

A transplant from Parsippany, this Mount Arlington resident has lived in

his small, rustic home overlooking Lake Hopatcong for 20 years. But, he

has 50 great years of lake memories. It’s where he learned to boat, sail and

water ski; where he spent summers visiting Bertrand Island Amusement

Park; and where he enjoyed dinners at The Windlass.

LOCAL

VOICES

HOW DO YOU EARN A LIVING?

I am a realtor with RE/MAX House Values in Landing. I’ve had a

passion for real estate since I was a kid and to be able to merge

that with my passion and knowledge of Lake Hopatcong creates

a perfect combination. I even have a view of the lake from the

office.

WHAT’S THE CRAZIEST/MOST UNUSUAL JOB YOU’VE EVER

HAD?

Certainly not crazy, but perhaps unusual. I worked in the check

encoding department where we would ensure the balancing of

banking transactions. I can better describe the position as “I used

to put the little numbers on the bottom of the checks!”

WHO MAKES UP YOUR FAMILY?

My awesome mom Joan, my two sisters, one niece and one

nephew. Of course there, is Michael, my better half, who believes

in me, boosts my confidence daily and has shown me so much

more of what life has to offer.

ANY HOBBIES?

I love working in the yard and maintaining the grounds here at

home. I do some various woodworking projects, but recently

built a really cool potting shed/greenhouse which I’m proud of. I

also like to collect old things, including antique toys and antique

fishing lures. Of course, I can’t leave out boating!

DO YOU VOLUNTEER?

I currently serve on the board of trustees for the Lake

Hopatcong Foundation and I’m also a part of their Development

Committee and on the committee for the annual LHF Gala.

IS THERE ANYTHING MOST PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED

TO LEARN ABOUT YOU?

A lot of people do not know that I’m a cancer survivor. Two

years ago, at 51, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of

prostate cancer. Fortunately, I had an excellent surgeon and I

follow up regularly. I cannot express enough the importance of

yearly physical exams and following through with recommended

testing. It could save your life...it saved mine!
