sorta study guide 4 gaeilge ,
i don’t think that they should hav the LC exams in the summer, and if u feel u can’t do it / ur motivation to study is gone -
try not to worry too much about it , we aren’t judging u for not scoring as well as you might hav / dropping out , idk WHAT
i would hav done in the circumstances so it’s easy for me to give tips when i did my exam in a calm & safe year - it’ll be
almost impossible to get 100 this year , like .. go u if u even sit the exam let alone get a H1 or whatever th grades ar now ?
so i was a crazy study person for irish & i focused all of my time on it and didn’t care about any of my other subjects , if
that’s also u then here’s what i did ! it’s not the best approach maybe but i knew i wanted to do gaeilge agus léann an
aistriúcháin in nuig and i found the irish syllabus rlly fun ..
som of this mightn’t be accurate ( it was like 5 years ago ) and my writing is so scribbly , listen to a teacher cos they know
best , but just might be handy to even take one lil phrase or tip ! i’m just bored at home and found my notebook , there’s
more in it if u need more !!
ok ,, getting 100% in LC irish :
( ardleibhéal )
the irish exam is predictable and can be really Fun ( in normal circumstances ) , if you like languages ♥
•so u already hav the oral so that’s hundy p out the gap ,it’s kinda sad but this whole situation is a bit of a disaster so i’ll
move on . p.s. use the vocab u learnt for ur oral in ur exam instead , u kno that
the timing u ought to go 4 !
•cluaistuiscint / listening ( idk what other ppl call it ? ) the léigh anois go cúramach bit .. & léamhthuiscint /
comprehension:
people say you can’t rlly study for these bits but u VERY much can - if ur looking for full marks & aren’t a native speaker , like moi !
it’s worth noting that ur best bet for the whole exam ( and any language exam really ) is to be a bit nerdy and incorporate it into ur
life , i know everyone says it and it sounds so naff but watch tg4 , it’ll allow u to be so much less nervous in the exam because you’ll
be used to the sounds / accents , and in most cases with the cluaistuiscint they just pull a story directly from the news on tg4 , so
even just watch that 4/5 times a week and you’ll be so happy you did when ur sat in paper one and they’re spouting on about a
news story you’ve already heard ! obvs i hav no idea what’s coming up but like ,, learn to spell ‘ coróinvíreas ‘..
the next thing u can do for this part is to take note of the common phrases they use - it’s so formulaic , they often have a profile or
bio ( beatháisnéis ) of a singer , TD , d-list irish celeb kinda vibes , smthin about like a new building opening / new project starting or
a social issue - rural matters , the gov u kno , u kno
i was a freaky nerd and i used to read the de bháldraithe dictionary & take down the words i thought might come up , that’s a bit
much , i’ll add pics of my final focail list ( try to get som placenames ,,and ‘ Roinn ’ is Department , they almost always say that !! )
try to learn some things that the dialects say differently : also - freisin / fosta , every - gach / achan / chuile
sorta study guide 4 gaeilge ,
the SEC seem to write the exam as if ur the kind of kids who like already know all of those irish cultural heroes : joe Steve ó
neachtain , Louis de paor , dónall Lunny , and read irish magazines and organise tráth na gceist’s for seachtain na gaeilge - so ur
best bet is to actually be like one of those kids , and failing that : watch tg4 !!
this is really grim but try to take note of who has died ( maybe on the irish scene ) in the past year , they sometimes do like a
remembering the life and saothar ( work ) of a person .Know ur institutions & colleges and an Roinn Cultúir, Oidhreachta agus
Gaeltachta ..
this magazine is the type of weird stuff u need to read lol
•ceist 6b:
ok this is for the weird pedantic exam takers , our teacher told us that it’s ceist 6b on the léamhthusicint that stands out & can help
u get that perfect score -
it seems like a basic 15 mharc question a lot of the time , but on one of ur two léamhthuiscintí, it’s ur chance to mention GENRE !
* u absolutely don’t have to do this if ur not totally confident , but it’s fun to show off a bit if ur already cruising -
ALWAYS in ur own words so don’t take chunks from the text , try to use synonyms for the adjectives ( aidiachtaí ) that are in the
text for ur answer instead , looks sooo good , if they say cróga u say calma ( brave ) if they say céasta u say cráite ( tormented )
i’m adding in my lil notes but like , really don’t worry about thinking too deep on this one unless ur literally bored ... which u probably
shouldn’t be lol

•ceapadóireacht ..
.,•*is í an rud is tabhachtaí ná an cumas teangan*•,.
ur language ability is the most important thing !!
i do not advise that u listen to me over ur teacher or basically anyone else .. butttt : the scéal is kinda the hardest option and i’d
always do an aiste or a díospóireacht / óráid ...
the thing with the scéal is that not only does ur gramadach and spelling and structure have to be perfect , but u also need to come
up with a plot too and that just sounds so hard to me .. like even now i dunno if i’d tackle it perfectly u kno Lol ?
( PLEAS if u hav already prepped to do the scéal then keep going, u know yourself better than i do ,and i bet it will b great ♥)
the difference between aiste & speech / debate is that aiste u discuss both sides but s / d u pick a siiiide .
the Topics u should look at are obvz -
.an timpeallacht ( environment )
.sláinte ( health )
.coiriúlacht / ciníochas ( crime / racism )
.bochtanas / cúlú eacnamaíochta ( poverty / economic depression - recession )
.gaeilge !! / cultúr gaelach - irish / irish culture
.daoine Óga - young ppl
i hav essays so if u want them just lmk , u need to practise write them sadly .. lol & include lots of nathanna cainte ( instead of
seanfhocail , seanfhocail r kinda randUm ..) nathanna are those things ppl say filling up sentences like ‘ caithfear a admháil ‘ ( i hav
to admit ) , ní h-aon saineolaí ar an ábhar mé ‘ ( i’m no expert on the subject ) , go deimhin ( indeed )
include a rhetorical question if ur feelin spicy , make a rlly positive point and then say ‘ nach iontach an rud é? ‘
AN TUISEAL GINIDEACH :
ok , bold statement , but u don’t need to kno the in’s and out’s of an tuiseal ginideach to get full marks , i didn’t really kno what it
was til college , just learn like twenty examples by heart and put them in the right place in ur essay .
what it kinda is : so u know when u say women u say ‘ mná ‘ but then the council of th women goes like ‘ cumann na mban ‘ and ur
like .. what ? why did the mná go like ban .. it’s because the two nouns came together .. maybe that’s a bad example .. but
sometimes u need to force an ‘ of ‘ into the phrase , post is ‘ post ‘ but postman , man of post ‘ fear an phoist ‘ and the second word
changes ... i am bad at this .. mostly whenever two nouns come together u need to change the second one ..
‘ dalta Ardteiste ‘ ( leaving cert student ) , ‘ beatha an scoláire ‘ ( student life ) , ‘ geataí na scoile ‘ ( the school gates ) , fadhb an óil
( the drinking problem ) ..
•ceapadóireacht ..
sorta study guide 4 gaeilge ,
•prós roghnach
for each story u gotta look at : who wrote it , the background / type of work ( cúlra agus cineál saothair ) , themes and emotions (
téamaí & mothúcháin ) , the ending ( críoch an scéil <- tuiseal ginideach ! ) , style ( stíl ) , traits ( tréithe ) of the characters ,
relations between characters ( an caidreamh idir na carachtair ) , and development ( forbairt )
my notes R hard to read but it’s everything u need to know to give a 30 / 30 freagra . ↓↓↓

actually reading & understanding the text is the most important thing , if u do literally only that then u can do a great answer , like
know the text and then on the day of the exam , actually engage with ur answer and it’ll flow out from ur peann !
for bonus points ! read essays and commentary on the story ! look at history , have an opinion on the themes of the story ..
learn by heart maybe like 10 quotes from the story , it’s better to learn less quotes perfectly than to half - know loads of them .
this is the stuff i read !
