The Beverly Hillbillies, The Musical

BASED ON THE CLASSIC TV SHOW Comedy | Cast: 5m., 6w., extras as desired.

Several sets, including one large and elaborate int. unit set

Run time: 125 min. | Code: BE3000

When the Clampett family unexpectedly strikes it rich, they move from the Ozarks to

Beverly Hills. Suddenly 17-year-old Elly May, a beautiful but naïve tomboy, is thrown

into a world of debutante balls, polo matches and people mainly concerned with their

place in society. Nearly taken in by a couple of scheming ne’er-do-wells, Elly proves

traditional country virtue triumphs over slick city vice. This musical is about compassion

and tolerance—with a little moonshine and Ozark stompin’ thrown in to spice it all up.

Book by Amanda Rogers. Music and lyrics by Gregg Opelka. Based on the television

show by Paul Henning.

Babette’s Feast

ADAPTED FROM DINESEN’S CLASSIC TALE Comedy/Drama | Cast: 3w., 6 either gender, extras

as desired. | Flexible set | Run time: 90 min. | Code: BK5000

This adaptation reimagines Dinesen’s classic tale as a rich theatrical event: deep,

funny, sensual, dangerous and beautiful. The cloistered 19th-century community of

two loving, devout Lutheran sisters reluctantly, then completely, embraces Babette,

a mysterious French refugee. But when Babette sacrifices all she has to throw a

lavish dinner party, the entire community is magically and inexplicably transformed.

Conceived and developed by Abigail Killeen. Written by Rose Courtney. Adapted from

the short story by Isak Dinesen.

As She Likes It

GREAT ROLES FOR WOMEN Comedy/Drama | Cast: 4 to 18w., 1 to 2 either gender.

Simple set | Run time: 90 min. | Code: AM2000

As She Likes It is an anthology of short plays that features women from Shakespeare’s

canon. The characters step outside of the male-dominated context of their original works,

sometimes into another time and place. These familiar women from classic stories may have

had muted voices in Shakespeare’s plays, but here they take center stage to discuss the

choices they have made and navigate the power structures that have controlled their lives.

These plays offer great roles for women, opportunities for thoughtful scene study, educational

exploration and a larger conversation about how these women’s stories resonate in our

current era. Edited and compiled by Karen Ruch. Written by Lori M. Myers, Sean Adams,

Marjorie Bicknell, David Nice, Sue Lange, Barbara Trainin Blank and Sandra Fenichel Asher.

Beowulf (and the Bard)

Comedy | Cast: 3m., 1w., 7 either gender. | Unit set | Run time: 90 min. | Code: BM5000

This fun, frenetic and freewheeling farce updates the Old English poem about the warrior

Beowulf and is told through the eyes of the epic’s writer, known only as “the bard.” In this

version of the story, Beowulf is an out-of-shape prince, while the bard is a desperate poet

struggling with a case of writer’s block. This retelling also introduces the bloodthirsty

warrior princess Gunborg, whose quest to reach her heroic destiny is ignored by her

overprotective father, the king. By Vidas Barzdukas and Christopher R. Bartlett.

Alice

Drama | Cast: 10+ actors, flexible. | Simple set | Run time: 35 min. | Code: AG9000

This one-act dramatization of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking

easy to stage. It is both fun to do and fun to watch. Most of the revered characters are here:

the rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat, and, perhaps best of all, the

Oyster show. With no front curtain, the main stage is skeletal and a bit dark. Recommended

the inner city, the future, any time and place that speaks to you. Adapted by Bonnie Roberts.

the characters see the world as it should be, according to them, anyway. His wife, Blanche,

simply wants him to go back to bed or go to work. When he does try to go to work, both his

present and the past, there is a touching scene of communication and understanding that sets

the embittered women free of their bondage to the past. By Ruth Perry and Tim Kelly.

by some of the most influential Latina/o scholars in the country who speak not only to the plays

in the collection but also to the issue of diversity and inclusion in the field of Theatre for Young

Audiences. Compiled by José Casas. Edited with Christina Marín, Ph.D.

The Ware Trilogy: Mother Hicks,

The Taste of Sunrise and The Edge of Peace

Code: WJ3000

The three plays of The Ware Trilogy comprise an epic saga of small-town America,

told in lyrical language and the visual poetry of American Sign Language; We

come to know these characters as they live their lives; ordinary people living

through extraordinary times. At the core of each play is an issue important to

Deaf and hearing cultures, but most important are the human stories that will

resonate with audiences of all ages. By Suzan Zeder.

What Remains and Other Plays

for High-School and Youth Theatre

Code: WJ4000

With this collection of eight plays written about teenagers for teenage actors, Max Bush

captures teens’ archetypal search for identity and purpose in the context of engaging with

the world around them. He does so with an inventive dramaturgy that makes these plays

both objects and vehicles for the student actors’ meaningful explorations. Funny and real,

the characters who populate this collection appeal to high-school actors because students

recognize themselves in the characters. Written by Max Bush. Compiled and edited by Justin

Dennis and Max Bush.

up from one nightmare, only to find that he’s in another. Now he can’t tell what’s real and what’s

not. The New Margo: A young woman’s best friend disappears and is replaced by an entirely

different person, but she’s the only one who seems to be able to tell. One Lane Bridge: A teenage

driver realizes that his mysterious passenger isn’t who he thought she was—she’s something
