Dear Participant,

You are invited to join my research study “The association between cognitive stimulating activities and

performance in reaction time towards aging”. This research study investigates the correlation between

age, gender, auditory stimuli (noise distraction) and reaction time. In this survey, you are asked three

short questions and to complete an activity.

After the completion of a visual reaction time test with three (3) series of five (5) tries you are asked to

answer three (3) simple questions and to send the results to me via fb message or email. The series are

as follows:

Serie 1: five (5) tries to get familiar to the system

Serie 2: five (5) tries without distraction

Serie 3: five (5) tries with noise distraction

The questions can be found below this text in the Step-by-step description. The answers should be sent

together with the screenshots of your reaction time results.

The experiment is anonymous and will not be shared with any other entity. After receiving your message

with the data and screenshots, solely the data will be transferred into a database, the message will be

deleted hereafter. The entire survey (Step-by-step description, questions and visual Reaction Time test)

will take about 5 minutes. Due to the current COVID-19 Crisis, this survey will be done digitally to ensure

your well-being. The data and the screenshots can be sent via Facebook or email:

raphaela.studybox2020@gmail.com

It is best to use the computer for this matter. The use of headphones is desired but not mandatory.

In terms of the visual reaction time task, you are asked to open up the website (open it now but do not

play it yet):

https://www.humanbenchmark.com/dashboard/reactiontime

Then, download the mp3 distraction sound (open it in a new tab but do not listen to it yet):

The study could have a potential risk, concerning the rising exposure to loud sounds. Therefore, increase

the music volume as loud as possible but still within a comfortable level for you!

This is just for you, do not send a screenshot, do not repeat it again.

- Close the app.

- Conduct one (1) series of five (5) trials. After the fifth trial you will get an average score.

Create a screenshot, or take a picture with your mobile phone.

- Close the app.

Series 3: Visual Reaction Time test with distraction

Step (3): Survey
