ARTIST STATEMENT

I have always been interested in viewing art in its different styles and forms,

but some of my favorite pieces involved nature and animals. Due to this, almost

all my art projects here at Northampton Community College have been about

nature or animals and have used earthy tones and rustic backgrounds. I strongly

believe that nature is art, and for that reason I love to capture aspects of nature

in every piece of art that I create. For one of my art projects I painted Van

Gogh’s The Starry Night,

to experiment more when it comes to my art. Another painting I did, and one of

longer with me but I have her forever portrayed in the painting that I did of her.

I love the ability to incorporate nature and animals in the artwork that I

create. Green is the main color that I use, and the work that I had the most fun

with was a magazine design. I had the chance to create my own magazine for

one of my classes. The layout that I used focused strongly on amazing sunsets,

beautiful blue skies, and remarkable trees. I used some of my knowledge that I

gained from typography class in the layout that was meant to attract attention.

The bold page headings read things like “The Tree of Life”, “Renew”, and

“Choose Nature”, and these were more meaningful to the reader than the actual

magazines content. This made it simple for someone who may not know what

the pictures to enjoy just what happened to be inside.

Another favorite work of mine was a package design that I got to create

for a t-shirt. My idea was to create a mossy green octagon shaped box as the

package, keeping in my color scheme of using earthy tones in much of the

work that I do. There was a brown octagon shaped “G” on top of the box as

well. When the consumer took off the lid of the package, the boxes sides would

collapse revealing the shirt that was inside of the box. I used an octagon shape

is it’s a shape you don’t see often when it comes to merchandise and it’s also a

more unique and eye-catching shape, and it turned out to be one of the best

designs I’ve done so far.

I believe that with most things, I have

so much more to learn when it comes to

art and to my artwork. I want to be able

to continue to experiment with different

ways to express my ideas artistically

and perhaps with mediums I have yet to

still by nature, and I am positive my future

works and designs will include nature in

the theme.
