volunteers nationwide,
CCI has a proud tradition
of volunteer support.
Volunteers are crucial to the
success of our breeding and
puppy raising programs, and
we rely on their enthusiastic
participation in countless
other ways, including
walking dogs, fundraising,
special events, campus tours,
washing dogs, administrative
assistance and chapter
activities.
CCI has 31 volunteer
chapters across the country,
assisting CCI with fundraising
and increasing
awareness of CCI programs
and services.

Profile: Nancy Baumann, Volunteer
In 1995 Nancy Baumann began volunteering for Canine Companions for
Independence as an administrative volunteer. Nancy’s joy, commitment and
passion for the CCI mission are inspirational. Her infectious enthusiasm led
her to raise five CCI puppies and serve as Chair of the Southeast Regional
Gala for ten years. Currently, she is President-elect of the Southeast Regional
Board.
In 2006, CCI recognized her with the Jack Warnock award, given annually
to a volunteer who exhibits significant dedication to CCI and its mission.
Also in 2006, Nancy’s tremendous contributions were recognized by the
Central Florida Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals as
they presented her with their Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award. Her
response to how she can give so much of herself is, “What I receive from CCI
far outweighs anything I could give.”
Nancy’s passion will forever be a part of Canine Companions for
Independence. In 2000, a tiny black fur ball named Baumann, Nancy’s
namesake, entered the CCI family. In October 2001, Baumann became a CCI
breeder and as of December 2006 sired over 450 CCI puppies. Recently,
Nancy traveled from Florida to CCI National Headquarters in Santa Rosa,
California where she met Baumann for the first time. Smiling from ear to ear,
she said, “To meet Baumann, and hear my name resonate throughout our
organization, from the east to west coast, fills me with so much pride and joy!”
