About This Booklet
Mutalad is an
uncommon
Arabic word. It
means legacy.
Specifically
a one that
goes way back and holds
a sentimental value. Or
something that has been
there all your life, which
made you emotionally
attached to it.
Let me tell you the
story about how I was
created. My creator
is Sara Al Rend, she
is such a nice girl.
She actually went
through a lot to form
my letters and made
an effort to make me
look stunning. I think
I should thank her,
but let’s keep that
for later. For now, I
think I will start telling
you the story of the
journey my creator
and I took for me to
be here! At first, my
creator had no idea
how I will look like.
She was lost and tried
to get creative but
failed. Then it hit her.
All she needed to do
was pour her own
emotions into her
own hand-writing!
Then just like that,
the first version of the
awesome me was in
front of her.
My creator is a
writer too!
Maybe that might
be the reason why
she made me look
elegant. She didn’t
really aim for it as
I understood, She
Aimed to make
me look like a fun
font, suitable for a
children’s book. But
her writer side made
her unconsciously
create me, a font that
hopelessly mixes fun
with elegant!
Why am I bubbly,
you ask.
When I was first
created, I was a
rough font. I had
acute angles and
I looked geometric
somehow. But then
my creator asked
herself that big
question she has
been avoiding for
sometime: who is
going to be exposed
to my font? And after
careful consideration
she decided she wants
to use me in her future
books. And she started
writing children’s
books not long ago.
So she made up her
mind, and decided to
make me as bubbly
and fun as she can.
What is so special
about me?
Well, this question is
a hard one. There are
lots of things that are
special about me, I
mean come on, I am
a pretty font.
One thing I can
think of is the way I
was made. I am the
product of emotions,
that makes me unique
and distinctive. Being
created with emotions
gave me character.
That will help me help
you translate your
emotions much faster.
I can mostly be used
in an artistic manner.
You can print me on
shirts, you can hang
me on your wall, you
can use me to beautify
your sorrundings.
I was created to
make your life
much prettier.
Express your self,
create designs
using me. Be bold
and tangle my letters.
Or simply use me for
my original purpose,
Use me to write
down your thoughts
and express your
emotions.
I am flexible.
I easily adapt to your
art and poetry needs.
use me well.
Start creating.
At times, My creator
gets all weird and
writes down random
words, stylizes them
and adds light and
shades. Sometimes
I can’t help but
question her sanity.
She creeps me out.
She needs to chill.
But I really think
That she can create
another font besides
me out of this. An
arabic and Latin
font duo maybe. It
will be great to have
younger siblings!
This was a
Typography
project my
creator made
long before she
created me. She
used a font called
Lalezar, this font
was created
by the Iranian
typographer
Borna Izadpanah.
She used the
font to create
a typographic
compostion of
an old children’s
song. My creator
hopes that other
designers will use
me the way she
used Lalezar in
her project.
