Dr. Anna Kajumulo TIBAIJUKA (D.Sc., Agro-Economics) UN<br />
Under-Secretary-General <strong>and</strong> Executive Director, UN-HABITAT<br />
Director-General, United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON)<br />
Anna Tibaijuka is the first African woman elected by the UN General<br />
Assembly as Under-Secretary-General of a United Nations programme. She<br />
is currently a member of the World Health Organization Commission on the<br />
Social Determinants of Health, <strong>and</strong> is also a member of the Advisory Board<br />
of the Commission on the Legal Empowerment of the Poor.<br />
Prior to joining the UN, Mrs. Tibaijuka was as a Professor of Economics at<br />
the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She is the author of various<br />
books <strong>and</strong> many research papers on real estate related areas. She received<br />
honorary Doctorate degrees conferred by the University of McGill in<br />
Canada, University College London, <strong>and</strong> Herriot Watt in Scotl<strong>and</strong>. She is a<br />
Foreign Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture <strong>and</strong> Forestry<br />
<strong>and</strong> the <strong>International</strong> Center for Tropical Agriculture.<br />
Dr. William Newman<br />
Founder <strong>and</strong> chairman of New Plan Excel Realty Trust, Inc., one of the<br />
nation's largest real estate companies, which focuses on the ownership,<br />
management, acquisition, development <strong>and</strong> redevelopment of community<br />
<strong>and</strong> neighborhood shopping centers.<br />
Received the Wall Street Transcript's gold, silver, <strong>and</strong> bronze medals for<br />
national leadership in the real estate industry, <strong>and</strong> Ernst & Young's Real<br />
Estate Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1998.<br />
Former chairman of the National Association of Real Estate Investment<br />
Trusts, a position he occupied from 1990 to 1992.<br />
A pioneer in the development of new REIT concept, which reformed the<br />
REIT industry in the early 1990s.<br />
John M. Quigley<br />
John Quigley is the I. Donald Terner Distinguished Professor at the<br />
University of California, Berkeley, where he holds professorial appointments<br />
in the Department of Economics, the Haas School of Business, <strong>and</strong> the<br />
Goldman School of Public Policy. He has served as Chairman of Berkeley’s<br />
Department of Economics <strong>and</strong> as Chair of Berkeley’s Academic Senate. He<br />
is an expert on issues in public finance <strong>and</strong> taxation, <strong>and</strong> on real estate,<br />
mortgage <strong>and</strong> financial markets. He is the author of more than a dozen<br />
books <strong>and</strong> over a hundred scientific publications. He served as President of<br />
the American Real Estate <strong>and</strong> Urban Economics Association <strong>and</strong> Vice<br />
President of the Association for Public Policy <strong>and</strong> Management. He has<br />
received various recognitions for his scholarly contributions, most recently<br />
an honorary degree form the Royal Institute of Technology, awarded in<br />
November 2007.<br />
