Look Within
Look Within, is an activity book designed for young girls ages 10 and up – an age where many girls experience changes both physically and mentally. I was inspired to create this for young girls of color, who are often negatively impacted by social media’s stereotypical version of beauty. This book is filled with positive reminders and affirmations, as well as activities that encourage self-love and self-reflection. Self-love is essential to our well-being and oftentimes it is overlooked by many because we tend to prioritize others’ happiness before our own. For young girls, it is crucial for development to teach self-love and self-worth in order to instill confidence and strengthen their character for the future. With this aim, I created Look Within, to teach young girls to be kinder to themselves and appreciate what makes them unique.

An activity book to EMPOWER girls age 10+
Hi, Im Sophia
My name is Sophia Patino, I grew up in Los Angeles,
California and moved to San Francisco to study art
and design at the University of San Francisco. I am 21
years old and some of my favorite things to do are
drawing, listening to music, taking photos, meeting
new people, and exploring new places.
Growing up, I did not always have the most
confidence due to my appearance and social media’s
unrealistic idea of beauty. As I got older I realized
that there is so much more to a person than just
outer appearance. I learned to appreciate all of the
things that make me unique and how to be my self
unapologetically. I created this activity book in the
hopes that you learn to do the same.

This week, I challenge you to practice some body positivity. When you wake up in
the morning, look in the mirror and find 3 positive things to say about yourself.
Think beyond appearance. Do this every morning and try your best to find new
things to say about yourself. Everyone is beautiful and worthy of their love.

Notes to
Write yourself a love letter. How we
speak to ourselves is important and often
we can be nasty and mean to ourselves.
In the letter, treat yourself like you would
your best friend – with unconditional
support and kindness.

Find a quiet place to meditate.
Close your eyes. Take 10 deep slow
breaths.
Picture yourself in your imagination.
Say each affirmation in your mind 5x
while you exhale.
“I deserve my love.”
“I deserve happiness.”
“I forgive myself for my mistakes.”
“I grow to be a better person
everyday.”
“I deserve my love.”
5 Repeat affirmations with intention and
clarity. The meaning behind the words
is more important than just the words
themselves.
6 End the meditation with 10 more slow,
deep breaths.

At the end of this week, take some time
to reflect on your achievements (big and
small!), and all the different ways you used
your strengths. This will help you focus on all
the good things you do and the great things
about you, rather than getting too caught up
in the negatives. List out your strengths or
achievements of the week!
EXAMPLES : Achievement: I drank a glass
of water instead of a can of soft drink, I got out
of bed early. Strength: Confidence - I started a
conversation with someone new), Kindness- I gave
someone a compliment. the negatives.
