Palanquins were a well-liked means of travel for royal and noble ladies up to the second
quarter of the 20th century. In Daulat Khana there's Mahadol, a golden palanquin that
was a present from the governor of Gujarat in 1730 A.D. A palanquin may be a portable
bed or couch, open or enclosed that's mounted on two poles and carried at each endways
the shoulders of porters or by animals. The introduction of spring-mounted coaches
ended the necessity for palanquins except as transport for the sick and wounded.
ShringarChowk is the starting of the Mehrangarh Fort and is the first court yard that a
visitor encounters on entering Mehrangarh Museum. This is where the most important
events in the Fort; the Raj Tilak or enthroning ceremony when new rulers appointment
occurs. In one corner there is a throne made up of marble, where the new ruler of
Jodhpur is presented to its people, the last ruler was Gajaraj Singh II. Then further there
is daulatkhana, howdah room ,palkikhana and many more things.
