The BIATHLON INTEGRITY UNIT was<br />
designed to centrally manage all integrity-related<br />
matters concerning biathlon,<br />
including anti-doping and ethical<br />
breaches, issues related to betting,<br />
and any kind of result manipulation.<br />
As well as dealing with wrongdoing<br />
when it occurs, the Unit, which<br />
is managed independently of the<br />
IBU, will also strengthen the capacity<br />
to prevent potential future<br />
wrongdoing. These are the answers<br />
of the BIU to the most frequentyl<br />

UNIT STAND FOR?<br />
What is the mission of the newly established Biathlon Integrity<br />
Unit (BIU)?<br />
The mission of the Integrity Unit is to maintain public confidence<br />
in the integrity of the sport of biathlon. Our aim is to ensure that biathlon<br />
is a fair and doping-free sport and that results are achieved<br />
honestly. We also work to foster a culture of fairness, accountability,<br />
responsibility, and transparency within the IBU and the Biathlon<br />
Family.<br />
How and to what extent does the Biathlon Integrity Unit support<br />
the new IBU Constitution?<br />
The Integrity Unit was created as a result of the new IBU rules, in particular<br />
the new Constitution and Integrity Code, which provides that<br />
the IBU will establish a Biathlon Integrity Unit. The Constitution also sets<br />
out the Integrity Unit’s powers and responsibilities, which include (i) educating<br />
individuals about their obligations under the Integrity Code, (ii)<br />
obtaining relevant intelligence and information from relevant authorities<br />
and also sharing it with those authorities, and (iii) investigating and prosecuting<br />
potential violations of the Integrity Code in the areas of doping,<br />
corruption, harassment/abuse, betting, and general misconduct.<br />
The BIU is an independent body with an independent budget approved<br />
by the IBU Executive Board. Where do you draw the independence line<br />
here?<br />
The Integrity Unit is operationally independent. This means that while we are a<br />
unit of the IBU, our day-to-day operations are run independently and without any<br />
