Dubai fetched 16.7 million visitors in 2019.

Emirates which is the wonder child of Dubai,

and the world’s fourth-largest carrier served

transportation to 58 million passengers.

The UAE announced the cancellation of UAE

tourist visa in March. But this country has

started thumping in the Gulf to reopen its

world of wonders for visitors in July.

A post-COVID-19 opening for tourism and

transportation is going to be different. Post

this news many travelers have started

searching UAE tour packages online to plan

their trips ahead.

Restaurants have been given green signal to open while retail

zones are also following strict guidelines of the government.

Hotels, attractions and malls have come together for joint efforts

in disinfecting premises as per UAE Visa requirements. More than

70,000 litres of disinfectants are being sprayed daily on the roads

and streets of Dubai, according to Dubai’s Supreme Committee

of Crisis and Disaster Management. Tour operators in the UAE will

have to design packages that would not only sell but give value

to the visitors.

Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Dubai stated

that even if we see an open mode in July it could be extended till

September as many other international airports is still closed. The

approach is not a single way. It is dependent on other countries

and Dubai is in talks with them. The decision to reopen has to be a

coordinated approach. Every country has its pattern of

quarantine, testing and allowing passengers to travel to approved

destinations.

I believe Dubai has to win the confidence and trust of its visitors

now and not build another attraction for them for the post-COVID-

19 reopen. Its health infrastructure and emergency policies to deal

with such pandemics shall be imperative to keep the flow of

visitors moving in. Unless a vaccine is available, the mindset of the

visitors will be fluctuating to plan their Dubai trips as before.

Emirates is undergoing a hygiene transformation to resume

operations in July. Dubai is aiming to get its business back. But they

will be strictly seating their passengers according to social

distancing norms. Meals will be served in boxes packed before

and no in-flight literature reading, please. The cabin bag is not

allowed. And permitted items include laptops, handbags or

briefcases and essential items for infants.

The owner of Nakheel Malls said that they are leaving no stone

unturned in scanning any visitor who is suspicious while coming to

the mall. Its reopening strategy highlights the testing of COVID-19

for all visitors at the service desk, temperature screening at mall

entrances and strict pre- and post-opening disinfection regimes,

with ‘high touch point sterilisation’ such as door handles – every

half an hour.
