Withover 400 native plants, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, andinvertebrates on the Massachusetts Endangered Species List, there ismuch to be done! This spring, MassWildlife biologists, botanists, andecologists have been braving the cold and damp conditions to carryout some of the conservation work needed to protect and restore rarewildlife, plants, and the habitats on which their survival depends.A peregrine falcon webcam went live from Gillis Bridgein Newburyport.MassWildlife and MassDOT installed a falcon nest box on thebridge last year and a camera was recently added before the nestingseason. Viewers will be delighted to see a chick has already hatchedin the nest! Given the unusual circumstances of this year, it wasalmost canceled. However, due to popular demand, the eventwill be going virtual!Community members can record a short video of themselvesor their quarantine-mates reading a poem they love andoffering a brief statement about why that particular poem haspersonal meaning for them. What the project hopes to captureis how each person’s experience of hearing a poem written bysomeone else can touch a reader or listener across time, continents,and experience.Newburyport High School students will select videos to beposted on the Firehouse Center for the Arts website and theNewburyport Public Schools website.To submit a poem for consideration, please limit your entirevideo – reading and explanation – to three minutes and uploadyour video to YouTube. Through its six years in existence,participant students have raised over $500k for the UVMChildren's Hospital - 100% of which stay local to support localkids. This Fundraised money is crucial to the support ofpatients at the UVM Children's Hospital, and goes towardsthe purchase of everything from life-saving equipment andmedicine to supplies meant to enhance the experience for patientsand their families during their treatment.Ipswich student makes Deans ListColby-Sawyer CollegeNEW LONDON, NH Colby-Sawyer College has namedKelsey Cranston of Ipswich to the Dean's List for spring 2020.Cranston majors in nursing and is a member of the class of2023. To qualify for the Dean's List students must achieve agrade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while carryinga minimum of 12 credit hours in graded courses.Newbury Town Meeting Date &Location ChangeThe Newbury Town Meeting date and location haschanged. The meeting will now be held at Triton HighSchool in the Auditorium on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at7:00 pm.Ipswich Police Announces Changes toTown Wharf Reconstruction PlanIPSWICH Police Chief and Harbormaster Paul A. Nikasannounces that the boat ramp and ramp walls at the TownWharf will be completely removed and replaced after furtherstudy of the structure.During the initial reconstruction work scheduled for thewharf this spring, engineers found additional structural deficienciesand conducted an additional study to determine thebest course of action for the repairs. Based on these findings,the ramp walls and structure will need to be fully replacedinstead of being repaired and capped.Work to cap the sea wall will proceed as originally planned.The Town Wharf was closed to the public in mid-April andwill remain closed while work is completed. Residents will notbe able to use the boat launch until the work is completed.Work on the wharf is expected to last until at least mid-June. However, construction crews are working diligently tocomplete the work as soon as possible.
