SUCCESS STORIES

BPCL extended support to the tune of Rs.10.96 crore for

the 33 centers according to the needs of each

Municipality. The project covers 56 wards with a

population of over 4 lakh people.

The amount accrued from sale of compost and of

recyclable waste is distributed amongst workers who are

involved in the waste collection. Compost derived from

organic waste is also distributed to the residents of the

coverage area to have a sense of ownership as “My

center”.

The manifold benefits of the project include reduction in

dumping of waste, reduction in fuel consumption, carbon

footprint and also generation of additional income for the

workers associated with the project. The project has truly

epitomized the Swachha Bharat Mission and given these

Municipalities a facelift!

19

SUCCESS STORIES

BPCL initiated Project Akshar in 2010 to address the

educational gaps in Sagar and Nandurbar districts of

Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. In 2016-17, Project

Akshar reached over 67,000 children across both states

through the interventions mentioned above.

In 2017, the program design was revisited given the

learnings from previous phases. and vision for the

upcoming years. In the current phase, the project aims to

build on the gains made in earlier phases of the program.

The long term goal is to enable children to read grade level

content with ease, by the end of the project period (April

2022).

Gratitude

We are thankful to our top management for

persistently showering us with wisdom and direction.

We are thankful to our regional and refinery counter

parts for spreading the wings of CSR across the

country.

Last but not the least we are thankful to our various

partners who have not only taken care of projects

but have also created a belongingness for BPCL in

the community.

“ You cannot escape the

responsibility of

tomorrow by evading it

today. Be the

compromise you want to

see in the world.

Freedom & Duty always

go hand in hand and if

the free do not accept the

duty of social

responsibility, they will

not long remain free.

There is a social

responsibility to take care

of vulnerable people. ”
