a Continuing Commitment

Woodstock, New York is a small township, quiet in the
winter months of 2020 save for the Bread Alone Bakery
breakfast stop. By the first days of March, any hint of
snow cover was gone. The air felt crisp, skies sunny.
And the Covid pandemic seemed far away, though it
literally had just been declared an official emergency.
So elbow bumps - yes, hand washing – yes; but no
masks visible as yet, little sense of distancing.
Woodstock and Nantucket printmakers concentrated
on the monoprint technique, which produces a
singular print, though there is the potential for a
second, ghost print. The inky ghost of the first print
survives on the plate and offers a repeat image in a
light shade that can be added to for another unique
image. We worked in bootcamp style from morning to
later afternoon, with dinners hosted by one or another
of our Woodstock compatriots.
Initially, the AAN artists who participated were Julija
Mostykanova Feeney, Miki Lovett, and myself. Mary
Emery Lacoursiere and Meghan Weeks joined us a
