Responsibilities as Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs<br />
The Office of the Provost has the administrative and operational responsibility for the<br />
Lawrence and Edwards campuses including academic and student programs and business<br />
operations. The office is responsible for the formulation and implementation of academic<br />
and administrative policies and goals working in concert with the vice provosts and deans<br />
and in cooperation with University Governance. The Senior Vice Provost for Academic<br />
Affairs reports to the Provost and coordinates various academic programs to enhance and<br />
support the academic mission of the university.<br />
Work with the academic deans and facilitate communication and interaction with the<br />
Office of the Provost<br />
Supervise directors of Office of Compliance, Continuing Education, International<br />
Programs, Center for Service Learning, Center for Online and Distance Learning,<br />
Student Affairs, and offices in academic affairs, including Office of the First-Year<br />
Experience, Center for Service Learning, Center for Undergraduate Research,<br />
Undergraduate Advising Center, Writing Center, Academic Achievement and Access<br />

Launch the KU Core curriculum, a 21 st Century curriculum based upon goals that<br />
cover essential skills, critical and integrative thinking, and values that will prepare<br />
students for the modern workplace and for life-long learning.<br />
Expand institutional support for experiential learning and first year<br />
educational experiences<br />
Provide focused experiential learning and first-year educational experiences for<br />
students, including first-year seminars, common book program, living-learning<br />
communities, block enrollment, and service learning, undergraduate research, and<br />
study abroad experiences.<br />
Implement Learner Outcomes Assessment<br />
Establish goals and processes to assess student learning at all program levels; ensure<br />
that curricular decisions reflect student learning assessment.

Launch the Center for Online and Distance Learning<br />
Establish the center and ensure its success in establishing and expanding online<br />
courses and online degree programs. Determine the goals, priorities, and strategies<br />
for moving forward with course redesign, creating of hybrid courses, and the<br />
creation of online graduate certificate programs and degree programs.<br />
Articulation and transfer policies and processes<br />
Create Council for Articulation and Transfer Policies, and ensure appropriate<br />
transfer agreements with community colleges in the Regents system. Create a process<br />
that makes transfer agreements transparent and ensures smooth transition to the<br />
four year institution. Work with Kansas Board of Regents Transfer and Articulation<br />
to institute state-wide system of transfer.<br />
Major Accomplishments in Graduate Studies<br />
Reorganized and Directed Office of Graduate Studies. Responsibilities included: Ensure the highest<br />
standards in graduate education and program development. Develop graduate program<br />
policy and program standards, review existing programs, approve new programs, manage<br />
admissions, curricular and graduation requirements. Collect graduate admissions, progress to<br />
degree and completion data, and report program data to the individual programs and the<br />
academic community. Develop evidence-based best practices in graduate education and help<br />
schools/College and departments to implement best practices.<br />
Created the Executive Council of Graduate Faculty and its role in graduate<br />
education.<br />
Council oversees, reviews, advises the graduate dean on Graduate Studies policy<br />
Council advises the graduate dean on Board of Regents program review and on final<br />
review of programs<br />
Council reviews and recommends new program proposals for approval<br />
Established mechanisms for collecting data on graduate students and<br />
