Meet the Designer
TAMARA COMOLLI
— What is your favorite gemstone?
— How did you start the brand?
When I was 17 years old, I sold my
own bracelets in my then-boyfriend’s
boutique, but my father was concerned
about my ruinous passion for gems and
that jewelry design was more of a hobby
than a career. I studied business instead
and became a management consultant.
When I was standing in front of an
executive board presenting a strategy,
I thought to myself: “What am I doing
here?” So I decided to quit the job and
follow my dream.
— How did the water drop become
the brand’s hallmark?
Although I was born in Munich, I grew
up by the beach. I spent my childhood
traveling with my family, living in Spain,
Gibraltar and France, always by the
ocean, spending every free moment I
had at the beach or on boats. Our lives
revolved around following our father,
who worked in the casino business. The
combination of spending the time casually
at the beach and spending days in
the luxurious environment of a casino
inspired my love of gems, and the idea
of barefoot luxury was born. Water and
the ocean have been my source of energy
ever since, and that’s how the drop
became our hallmark.
— How do you want women to feel
when they wear your jewelry?
With our unique brand promise,
“effortless luxury”, we allow women to
wear jewelry that suits their personal
style day and night: in a layering look,
with precious gems dangling from a
casual leather cord, or as stand-alone
statement pieces. Clients who bought
our designs many years ago will still find
those items in the collection today. We
want women to experience the essence
of barefoot luxury: freedom, escape
and happiness.
I have an endless passion for all unusual
and rare gems in the most vibrant
colors. You might think a Tourmaline is
just a Tourmaline, but it’s so much more
than that. It’s often rarer, more precious
and sought-after than a Diamond –
for instance, ocean blue Paraiba Tourmalines.
Once you’ve seen this color,
you won’t want anything else! As well
as Tourmalines, I really love Sapphires,
because you can find them in very
surprising colors.
— Where do you source your
gemstones and Pearls?
We travel the world from Madagascar to
the magical island of Tahiti searching for
rare and precious stones and Pearls in
the most vibrant colors. On our travels
we have built strong relationships with
our suppliers. Our knowledge and passion
has conquered the hearts of our
clients, which has inspired us to search
for their favorite unique gemstones.
— How would you describe an
effortless luxury look?
The perfect pair of jeans, a crisp white
shirt and a layered bracelet and necklace
look. Wear no shoes to complete this
effortless style. This beach-girl look is
simply me! Add some of my beloved
acorn-shaped MIKADO pendants in
candy colors to radiate pure happiness
and joie de vivre. And voilà!

non-profit organization Oceana. Inspired by the shape of this unusual type of sea urchin found in tropical waters, our Sand Dollar
design symbolizes life by the sea and reminds us how precious water is. The pendants are available in three different sizes and
gold colors adorned with white Diamonds and colorful Sapphires. Covering two-thirds of the planet, oceans are vital to our ecosystem
and are the natural habitat of thousands of species. Oceana fights to protect them and is the largest organization of its

Artisans
We work with the world’s greatest
artisans to craft our beloved INDIA
collection. The stunning paisley pattern
of our INDIA Leaf is hand-carved in
Jaipur in an elaborate manufacturing
process requiring great expertise
and attention to detail. First, the raw
material is prepared and cut into the
sizes required for our leaves in three
dimensions. Carvers then shape the
contour and draw up the patterns to
carve the iconic design. As a finishing
touch, the delicate leaves are then
polished. Our wooden INDIA bracelets
are also handmade with loving care. In
our atelier at Lake Tegernsee, we string
each bracelet bead by bead and attach
the golden leaf link.

MANUFACTURING AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
Our INDIA Dream pendant is inspired by the intricate mural paintings and intarsia found in Indian palaces. The exotic, ornamental
patterns of leaves, flowers and tendrils are what make this design so special. The traditional paisley shape is deeply rooted in
the Indian culture. It can be found on stunning saris and Mehndi hand paintings from ancient India. Crafting the INDIA Dream
pendant takes a lot of loving care and attention to detail, especially when setting Diamonds and colorful Sapphires to create this
masterpiece.

SOURCING OCEAN JASPER
The mesmerizing Ocean Jasper, created by volcanic eruptions cause lava to flow into the cool ocean water, consists of layers of minerals
compressed over millions of years and melted into colorful stone material. Sourcing and cutting Ocean Jasper is a difficult process
requiring a great deal of expertise. Found in Northern Madagascar in a remote, almost inaccessible area, this unique and colorful gem
can only be mined along the coastline at low tide. It is loaded onto small boats, awaiting the return of high tide. Once the material is
sourced, we select the material with the highest quality and the most beautiful patterns.

Diamond pavé refers to the beloved sparkling surfaces featuring a multitude of small Diamonds. Even the tiniest Diamonds feature
a brilliant cut – involving incredible amounts of work and precision. Graduation in sizes is particularly crucial in ensuring a perfect
surface. A Diamond pavé setting is at its most challenging when the surface is domed, as in many of our designs. Arranging
different sizes of those Diamonds is a skill that only very experienced setters can master. Take a moment with a loupe to examine
how precisely our gold prongs secure each Diamond in place side by side. When this is done to perfection, the silky feel of the
surface is impressive. This is what makes the difference in quality.

THE AWARD WINNING MASTERPIECE
SNOWFLAKES
COLLECTION
A very special story began in Venice in 2004 when the brand was honored with the DeBeers Diamond Award. The brief was to
design a piece of jewelry reflecting the origins of the earth. Tamara Comolli knew instantly that she would draw on her hallmark
symbol, the water drop. The leaf shape alludes to Adam and Eve and goes back to early history. A fig leaf-inspired design with a
belt made of flowing Diamonds emerged. It features the large SNOWFLAKES Leaf in the center with a small leaf dangling at the
end. Following this award in Venice, the SNOWFLAKES Leaf became an integral part of the collection.
