Fênix.

My book inspiration revolves around the life cycle narrative of a phoenix, or a fênix, in Portuguese. First, there are flames on the cover (here I read it as the first page) to remind us of what this magical being is related to and also brings the sense of the movement the book is trying to convey. Then, on the second page, we have a black background - nothingness, a silence. There, the egg hatches and cracks gradually and we see it step-by-step, and we also see the phoenix come to life. This life force is brought to us by the vibrant colors on the third page - yellow, orange, red... Another thing that I wanted to convey on the second page was a sense of little birds on a nest even though we are talking about magical beings here - a simple relation to real life, in a way. Then, the fourth and fifth-page work together to bring us adult phoenixes and more movement than ever: the lines and their change in color and size bring this dynamic sense that the air is flowing in some sort of direction, and the way the figures are placed are there to convey an even greater sense of movement. The background is left white to connote openness. The sixth page has a darker background to convey a sense of stopping, a sense of ending; however, since the colors are left untouched, vibrant, I tried to convey that the phoenix was still as powerful and as strong as ever. Then we see a heartbeat monitor line fading gradually on the seventh page and the question "fim?" (the end?) is brought to us. The back cover then brings us a powerful surprise: a new egg, shining from the darkness, the nothingness, the emptiness, as the life circle restarts.
