M.C. HARRIS<br />
Marc Cabell Harris<br />
was born in New York City in 1950.<br />
His father was a jazz impresario<br />
and surrealist painter…<br />
His mother, a writer, and fashion couturier.<br />
He grew up in Northern California<br />
where he attended CCA<br />
graduating in printmaking in 1972.<br />
His first exhibition was<br />
at the San Francisco Civic Center<br />
featuring his etchings<br />
and the lithographs of M.C. Escher.<br />
Mr. Harris became known<br />
for fashion and textile designs<br />
after founding the<br />
Marco Polo Companies in 1975,<br />
and later, the Olive Ridge Collection<br />
offering hand loomed textiles<br />
for the home furnishing industry.<br />
He retired in 2000<br />
to devote full time t o his art work.<br />
Celebrated for his rich pallet<br />
and sculptural forms,<br />
Mr. Harris' paintings are often described<br />
as Cubist , Modernist , and Nabiist .<br />
His rarely seen drawings<br />
record he artist 's many<br />
adventures, and encounters<br />
in his extensive travels.<br />
His work is widely collected<br />
and is the subject<br />
of more than forty books in print
