M.C. HARRIS
Marc Cabell Harris
was born in New York City in 1950.
His father was a jazz impresario
and surrealist painter…
His mother, a writer, and fashion couturier.
He grew up in Northern California
where he attended CCA
graduating in printmaking in 1972.
His first exhibition was
at the San Francisco Civic Center
featuring his etchings
and the lithographs of M.C. Escher.
Mr. Harris became known
for fashion and textile designs
after founding the
Marco Polo Companies in 1975,
and later, the Olive Ridge Collection
offering hand loomed textiles
for the home furnishing industry.
He retired in 2000
to devote full time t o his art work.
Celebrated for his rich pallet
and sculptural forms,
Mr. Harris' paintings are often described
as Cubist , Modernist , and Nabiist .
His rarely seen drawings
record he artist 's many
adventures, and encounters
in his extensive travels.
His work is widely collected
and is the subject
of more than forty books in print
