PARENTAL WEEKLY UPDATE – 3rd July 2020
(available on our website)
Dear parents and carers
I would like to thank all my colleagues who have delivered lesson this week to year 10 or 12 students. We
have had some great feedback from you our parents and from the students.
For parents of year 11 and year 13 students, exams results days are fixed as per the school calendar. I will
be letting you know the details around these soon.
If your child is coming into school for a face to face session in the next two weeks, please can you check
that they are bringing in the correct equipment. This should also include a pack of tissues.
Can I ask you to have a look at the ‘Baldock Beats Waste litter picking July’ initiative later on in this
bulletin – a great opportunity to show the KTS community spirit.
Kind regards,
Year 10 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students school at home…
The students have been working on their practical mock Non Exam Assessment: 3 dishes in 3 hours.
We are very proud of how hard our students have been working at home, to plan, shop and make these dishes is
amazing!
Some students have even been able to independently link their practical food work with their practical science
work, by investigating CO2 gas produced from yeast and then making bread for a pizza base! Very well done year
10.
Drama News
Not to Be Missed
With the uncertainty of when the theatres will return in London and on Broadway, this is a fabulous chance to
see the Broadway Production of Hamilton come to our screens much earlier than planned. Only available on
Disney Plus from Friday 3 rd July but worth seeing if you can.
Hamilton
15 months ahead of its initial release date, the filmed Broadway production of Hamilton is about to arrive on
Disney Plus
This is a special occasion for any musical fan – seeing those who originated each of the principal roles in the
show, which follows Alexander Hamilton as he arrives as a penniless immigrant and emerges as one of the most
important men in US history, from the comfort of your own home, or streamed on your smartphone. You might
never have been in the room where it happened back in 2016 when it was recorded, but now you get the next
best thing (and for a fraction of the price).
Physical Geography Photo Competition 2020
The Geography Department would like to invite all KS3, KS4 and KS5 geography students the opportunity
to compete in the annual GA Physical Geography Photo Competition with the title ‘Finding
Physical Geography’ for years 7-13; there are two age-related categories Y7-9 and Y10-13. A brief summary
is outlined below with web links to find out more. Please contact Mrs Evans via email at
JEvans@ktemplar.herts.sch.uk for more information and guidance before the end of term if you would
like to enter.
About the competition:
This year’s competition is about finding interesting examples of
physical geography in unexpected places, or examples of processes
that someone might ordinarily pass over, or not give a second
thought to.
To enter, a student should take a photograph of some aspect of
physical geography that many people might not notice at first. This
could be something that captures a process, a landscape, a skyscaper
or a particular feature. This could be something on grand scale
but might equally be a small-scale feature of physical geography; it
could be something seen in an urban environment or a garden as
much as a feature of the countryside or a ‘wild’ area; and it may be
noticed and captured in the local area or further afield (if travel and
visiting regulations allow).
The photograph needs to be accompanied with its location and a
description of up to 250 words that ‘show and tell’ the physical geography, describing the focus of the
find and explaining the story that reveals its significance, even though for most people it is ‘hidden’.
Deadline: 30 th September 2020
More information: Example entries, information about prizes and tips for taking a successful photograph
can be found here - https://www.geography.org.uk/2020-physical-geography-photocompetition.
The Geography Department look forward to having lots of entries from KTS students!
Baldock Beats Waste LITTERPICKING JULY!
One thing that sadly seems to have got back to normal is littering. Baldock Beats Waste is
organising a wonderful initiative called Litterpicking July. So that social distancing rules are
maintained they would like you to do a session of litter-picking wherever and whenever you
choose and send a photo of you doing it. If appropriate before and after photos would also be
good. You could clean up the area near where you live and encourage people to look after the
place or you could just take a bin-liner and rubber gloves with you on a walk in the woods.
Please send your photos to Mrs Staines (mstaines@ktemplar.herts.sch.uk) or to the Baldock
Beats Waste Facebook page. There will be awards from EST for any students who take on the challenge.
