前 言
中 国 的 文 字 是 象 形 文 字 , 所 谓 象 形 会 意 是 也 , 这 是 一 种 有 抽 象 意 味
的 形 式 。 中 国 人 的 祖 先 在 五 千 多 年 前 发 明 文 字 时 ,“ 艺 ” 字 ( )
在 金 文 和 甲 骨 文 中 就 像 一 个 人 伸 出 两 手 在 种 植 苗 木 之 形 , 会 “ 种
植 ” 之 意 。 艺 术 是 人 们 用 心 灵 浇 灌 起 来 的 生 命 和 美 , 确 切 说 , 艺 术
就 是 人 为 。
龚 嘉 伟 , 德 州 理 工 大 学 视 觉 与 表 演 艺 术 学 院 教 授 、 数 字 媒 体 艺 术
家 , 多 年 来 孜 孜 不 倦 地 对 古 代 与 当 代 、 东 方 与 西 方 艺 术 创 作 的 各 个
不 同 时 空 阶 段 中 所 呈 现 出 来 的 惊 人 相 似 的 系 统 化 和 制 度 化 进 行 了 独
特 的 观 察 与 深 刻 的 思 考 , 从 分 析 、 解 构 中 国 字 “ 艺 ” 出 发 , 探 讨 和
求 索 艺 术 的 真 谛 , 作 品 达 到 空 前 的 深 度 和 美 感 。 在 艺 术 创 作 态 度 、
创 作 方 法 和 创 作 水 平 上 都 为 我 们 树 立 了 难 以 逾 越 的 标 杆 。
龚 教 授 多 年 来 一 直 活 跃 于 国 际 艺 术 舞 台 , 他 的 作 品 先 后 在 七 十 余 次
个 展 与 群 展 中 展 出 , 展 出 地 点 遍 及 中 国 、 美 国 以 及 欧 洲 等 多 个 国 家
和 地 区 。 龚 嘉 伟 曾 多 次 赢 得 美 国 政 府 和 大 学 颁 发 的 艺 术 研 究 基 金 和
艺 术 竞 赛 , 他 的 实 验 电 影 作 品 曾 在 多 个 国 际 电 影 节 获 奖 。
我 很 高 兴 地 向 大 家 介 绍 龚 嘉 伟 的 “ 艺 ” 系 列 作 品 。 这 个 系 列 包 括 数
字 版 画 、 交 互 装 置 、 网 上 游 戏 等 多 种 媒 材 的 作 品 。 本 次 展 览 中 展 出
的 数 字 版 画 , 是 从 艺 术 家 十 余 年 间 创 作 的 一 百 余 件 “ 艺 ” 系 列 作 品
中 选 出 的 精 品 , 供 大 家 欣 赏 参 考 。

Foreword
The Chinese writing is a hieroglyphic system that uses symbols
in the form of pictures. The shape of each character is a simplified
and distilled form of the reality, which we can witness it in the
early stage of the development, such as in the Oracle bone script
and the Bronze inscriptions. For example, the character ART ( )
was a picture of a man holding a plant. It means, “planting”. Hence,
art is the cultivation of life and beauty. Art is about creation.
Jiawei Gong, a digital artist and an art professor of Texas
Tech University, has investigated for many years in the issues
surrounding the systemization and institutionalization of art
making throughout human history, as well as the similarities
of this pursuit across different cultures. Using the Chinese
writing system as an enter point, he deconstructs, analyzes, and
reconstructs the process of art making. The body of work yielded
from this investigation is imbued with unprecedented formal and
aesthetic quality. Gong’s commitment to the subject, his creative
process, and his artistic achievement has set up a higher standard
which is difficult for many of us to achieve.
Jiawei Gong has been actively involved in the international art
circuit. His exhibition record to date includes over 70 group and
solo exhibitions regionally, nationally and internationally in the
U.S., Europe, and China. He has won a number of awards at the
international film festivals and art competitions, and he has also
received many research grants for his creative projects.
It is my pleasure to introduce to you the ART series by Jiawei
Gong. This body of work consists of digital prints, interactive
installations, and online games. The digital prints presented in
this exhibition are selected from more than 100 pieces of the
artworks in the ART series that the artist has created in the past
over ten years.
I wish Jiawei Gong a successful exhibition and a pleasant visit to

龚 嘉 伟 简 介
龚 嘉 伟 出 生 于 风 景 秀 丽 的 中 国 杭 州 。1992 年 , 毕 业 于 中 国 美 术 学 院
油 画 系 ;2007 年 , 获 得 南 伊 利 诺 伊 大 学 数 字 媒 体 艺 术 硕 士 学 位 。
在 过 去 的 20 余 年 里 , 龚 嘉 伟 先 后 从 事 了 美 术 设 计 、 影 视 动 画 制
作 、 新 闻 出 版 和 摄 影 , 以 及 美 术 教 育 等 工 作 。1994–1998 年 间 ,
龚 嘉 伟 任 教 于 浙 江 科 技 学 院 设 计 学 院 ;2007 年 起 先 后 在 美 国 多 所
大 学 任 教 , 目 前 为 德 州 理 工 大 学 视 觉 与 表 演 艺 术 学 院 终 生 教 授 ,
跨 媒 体 专 业 负 责 人 。 多 年 以 来 , 龚 嘉 伟 一 直 活 跃 于 国 际 艺 术 舞
台 , 他 的 作 品 先 后 在 90 余 次 个 展 与 群 展 中 展 出 , 地 点 遍 及 美 国 、
亚 洲 , 及 欧 洲 等 多 个 国 家 和 地 区 。 龚 嘉 伟 的 电 影 与 实 验 影 像 作 品
曾 多 次 在 国 际 电 影 节 获 奖 , 也 先 后 赢 得 美 国 政 府 和 大 学 颁 发 的 艺
术 研 究 基 金 和 艺 术 竞 赛 奖 项 。
Jiawei Gong Bio
Jiawei Gong was born and raised in the scenic city of Hangzhou in
China. He received his BFA degree in painting and drawing from
China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China, and his MFA degree
in digital media from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Gong has practiced in both applied and fine art disciplines for
more than 20 years. His exhibition record to date includes
over 90 group and solo exhibitions regionally, nationally and
internationally in the U.S., Asia, and Europe. Gong is an awardwinning
artist at several international film festivals and art
competitions, and has also received a number of research grants
for his artistic work. As an educator, Jiawei Gong has taught in
both China and the U.S. Currently he is a professor in the School
of Art at Texas Tech University.
