7.23 FRENCH TAF TABLE
Scale 1741 1742 1743 1744 1745+ GO GPB DR!
A – 0 0-1 0-1 – +2 +4 –
B 0-3 1-3 2-4 2-3 0-2 +2 +3 –1
C 4-6 4-7 5-7 4-5 3-5 +1 +2 –1
D 7-8 8 8 6-7 6-7 +1 +1 –2
E 9 9 9 8-9 8-9 – – –3
Explanation: consult this table during Theatre Allocation (Ex. Rule 5.11). Find the column corresponding to the coming Year (1741 = At Start) and roll one (1)
die. Read to the left-hand column. This indicates a Scale of Reinforcements. The composition of each Scale is given on the chart below. These are the French forces
available to the Bourbon player for the coming Year. If there are more French forces in play than listed in the Scale, the excess must be removed. If there are some
forces in play, but not enough to match the Scale’s allowance, the Bourbon player may take Reinforcements equal to the balance.
When the Gallispan Offensive (GO), Guerre dans les Pays Bas (GPB), and/or Defend the Rhine! (DR!) Strategic Events (Ex. Rule 6.2) occur, they cause row shifts,
which are applied after the die roll but before determining the Scale. Make the indicated Row Shift(s) DOWN the table based on the initial die roll (example: GO
Event occurs in 1743, with a die roll of “5” (normally Scale “C”): shift to the next line down = Scale “D” is in effect).
GPB and GO effects are permanent once the Events occur (but the row shifts will still vary with the die roll).
DR! results can only apply after the GPB Event has occurred. The Event will be triggered during the Year, not necessarily in the same Turn as TAF. To resolve this
situation, as soon as the Event is triggered, immediately crossindex the current Year’s Scale with the DR! column and shift UP the indicated number of rows.
Receive as Reinforcements the difference between the original Scale and the new Scale. Example: it is 1744, the GPB Event occurred during Theatre Allocation in
1743, and the French are thus operating with Scale “E”. The Allies cross the Rhine, triggering the DR! Event during the Special Events portion of the same Turn.
The French player cross indexes the Scale “E” row with the DR! column, which calls for a –3 shift (up). The French are now eligible to receive Scale“B”; since
they already have Scale “E”, the French player must subtract the forces in play from the forces permitted under Scale “B”; he receives the balance as
Reinforcements. The first (1 st ) DR! Event also introduces Louis XV, the Armeé du Roi Grand Army HQ, and La Maison du Roi. See Ex. Rules 3.14, 3.25, 5,23, and
5.28.
D 5 4 – 40 7 No Irish/Scots 2F/1S 12
E – 2 – 20 3 No Irish/Scots 1F 8
Notes: Guard includes Foot & Maison du Roi. “Other” Infantry = any Nationality other than French or Swiss (e.g. Irish, Lorrainer); No Irish/Scots = All except
these. Important. Subtract from the “maximum allowance” all lost items (due to elimination or Capture) – SPs, Auxiliaries, Batteries, etc. – that have not yet been
recovered or Replaced.
Artillery is by Unit. Each Field Artillery (F) includes the affiliated Auxiliaries – 1x Pioneer, 2x Sappers of the same Regiment – and the maximum number of
Batteries. S = Siege Artillery, also at maximum SPs.
Milice forces are always available up to their maximum allowance (25 SPs), being replenished per Ex. Rule 5.26. Important. Add 26 SPs during the DR! Event
Auxiliaries must be purchased with the listed points (“SPs”). Choice of Auxiliaries is up to the player. If the French are allowed more Auxiliaries than are present
in the force pool, ignore the excess. Each counter costs 1 point, except for Pontooneers and Hussars, which cost 2 points each. After Legions (KR&Os 3.510) come
into effect (for 1744), an entire Legion may be taken at 1/2 the cost of its component counters, rounded DOWN. Exception: Grenadiers do not cost points; there
may be 1 Line Grenadier in play for every 8 Line Infantry SPs (of any Nationality); Guard Grenadiers may be in play whenever the Guard is.
Leaders. Ordinarily, all Leaders are available at all times. See 7.215 above for changes made due to Strategic Events. (Note Le Roi arrives by Strategic Event).

Notes: reductions due The Bear Awakes last for one (1) full Year. At the end
of that time (next TAF determination), if the event has not been triggered again,
removed items may enter play as Reinforcements. If the Event reoccurs at the
same Threat Level, no additional forces are removed. If the Event reoccurs at a
different Threat Level, remove (or return) the balance of forces between the two
levels. Reinforcements enter per Ex. Rule 5.119. See also the notes under 7.322.
Prestige Penalties. For every 5 SPs not withdrawn as required, the
Hohenzollern Side loses one (-1) PP. Auxiliaries and Leaders count as 1 SP
Notes: Reinforcement SPs are added to the Prussian force pool in the Nov-Dec Turn of the listed
Year. Since they enter after determining TAF, they are ignored during that process.
Off Map Garrison SPs represent forces guarding the frontier with Russia. These SPs only enter
play per Ex. Rule 6.23 point #1 (Allied forces enter Brandenburg). I.e. they are additional to any
Bear Awakes Event “emergency returnees”. They do count toward the SP requirements for that
Event (i.e. the number of SPs to be removed from play can be reduced by 10). If they are in play
(due to Ex. Rule 6.23 point #1) they may remain in play until a subsequent The Bear Awakes
Strategic Event. At that time, ten (10) the SPs removed due to the Event must be reassigned to the
Off Map Garrison.
Note that the only reduction in force that the Prussians ever suffer from is due to The Bear
Awakes Strategic Event.
the Habsburg Side loses one (-1) PP. Auxiliaries and Leaders
count as 1 SP each (Ex. Rule 5.11.14).
7.433 Turkish Incursion Force Reductions (Ex. Rule 6.2) 7.434 % of Hungarian Troops in Austrian Army, per Year
When this Strategic Event occurs, the Hungarian Imperial Garrison must
immediately be increased to its original level (per 7.431). If at or above its
initial level, no adjustment is made. Starting immediately, and for the
whole of the coming Year, no forces may be drawn from the Hungarian
Imperial Garrison. This includes forces that may have been previously
added due to a Revolt (Ex. Rule 6.25). The Hungarian Imperial Garrison is
immune to Revolts, and the Hungarians are immune to Mutiny (Ex. Rule
5.34), during this period.
Year Quantity of Hungarians
1740-41 5% of all Austrian SPs
1742-45+ 10% of all Austrian SPs
Include Auxiliaries in the total number of SPs: count 1 SP per
counter. Grenz and Hussar Auxiliaries can be affected: again,
count each counter as 1 SP
Notes: ordinarily, the Austrian theatre force pool equals the initial force pool given in 7.41 plus the Reinforcements given in 7.42. The remainder of the Austrian
Army is also “in play”, but allocated to the Imperial Garrisons, per 7.431. Mandated reductions to on map forces (i.e. other than through wear and tear) only occur
due to Strategic Events (Ex. Rule 6.2), including Revolts and Mutinies (Ex. Rule 6.25). You may voluntarily increase your forces on the map by taking forces from
the Imperial Garrisons (you can also add or return forces to the Imperial Garrisons). But, see the Revolt Table below for possible side effects. Forces removed due
to a Strategic Event will return to play during the next Theatre Allocation step (at Year-end), provided no new Strategic Event occurs to prevent them.
Hungary 78+ SPs 70+ 60+ 45+ 30+ 29– – –
Explanation: per Ex. Rule 6.25, first determine the Garrison that may be affected. Read to the right and find the current Garrison strength, in
SPs. Count Auxiliaries, if any are present, as 1 SP each, and each Artillery SP as 3 SPs. Compare the result with the value at the top of the
column. This is the chance of a Revolt occurring. Roll one (1) die for each Garrison that may Revolt, and if the result is equal to or greater than
the number at the head of the appropriate column, a Revolt has broken out. Always roll a die for Hungary, even if no Revolt is possible, since an
Hungarian Mutiny Ex. Rule 5.34 will occur on a die roll of “9”.
Notes: the Habsburg player may call for an Insurrection in Hungary, Moravia, and/or Austria, during any Administrative Phase in which an opposing Formation
occupies a hex in an eligible Territory. Cross-index the Territory with the number of opposing forces currently within the Territory. Roll one (1) die. If the result
equals or exceeds the value listed under the appropriate column, an Insurrection has broken out in that Territory. For listed HQs, Subordinates are not considered;
listed SPs are those that are “visible” as mobile Units or in Garrisons apart from any HQs.
Important: which column to use will vary not only with the force size, but also the political circumstances. If the Territory belongs to the Habsburg Side, use the
“Unconquered” row. If the Territory has been Conquered or Ceded, use the other row. (Once Conquered, a large force has a greater chance of maintaining peace
than a small force; before Conquest, a larger force merely irritates the locals more.

Hanoverians: Always 100% available. See Political Stance Chart for operational limitations.
Danes: Arrive as Reinforcements October Turn of 1741. Remove 1744+ on die roll of 0-2 during Theatre Allocation. See Ex. Rule 5.55
British & Dutch availability varies with the Year. See Political Stance Chart for operational limitations on those forces that are available.
Current Year SPs Auxiliaries APS HQ Leaders
1741 20% All No All
1742 50% All No 50%
1743 100% All Yes 25%
1744 100% All Yes 25%
1745+ 100% None Yes None
Explanation: maximum combined British/Dutch SPs allocated per Year will be the
percentage shown for that Year. For example, TAF determination conducted in 1742
(i.e. for the coming Year of 1743) yields maximum allowed SPs of 50%. POWs and
eliminated SPs participate in this calculation (Ex. Rule 5.114).
Auxiliaries are either available or not, depending on the Year.
The Army of the Pragmatic Sanction (APS) Grand Army HQ is only available in the
Years shown. All other HQs are always available. Note that the APS HQ can be used by
the Habsburg Side, with permission of the M-P player (if there is one).
The percentage of Leaders available is calculated separately for the
British and Dutch, and excludes Personages, who are always available.
When the percentage drops, Leaders currently holding a Posting may be
chosen for removal only if there are insufficient Leaders in the Officers’
Mess. Interned POWs and Killed Leaders (but not Wounded Leaders or
Captured Leaders who are in the process of returning to play) are
ignored.
Any limits imposed by a Political Stance are independent of this table,
and are only applied to those forces that are actually in play.

Using the Table. Roll one (1) die and crossindex with your Side. “Other” refers to Leaders, Auxiliaries, and Artillery. Leaders are drawn
randomly, as usual. Artillery is awarded by Batteries – each Side has its own Artillery Unit that uses the number of Batteries awarded to it.
DRMs: –1 for Side holding the HRE chit; +1 for all Sides not holding HRE chit, if the HRE chit is held; otherwise no DRMs.
