For more than three decades, Guernsey's has been producing many of the world's most exciting and
successful auctions. The firm's diversity is reflected in the range of its events, a sampling of which would extend
from the President John F. Kennedy Auctions to the Graceland (Elvis) Auction, from the first auction of artwork
from the Soviet Union to the world's largest auction... the contents of the ocean liner SS United States.
The Naylor Collection: The Complete History of Photography
(Mid-October)
Considered by many leading experts to be the finest privately owned photographic collection in the world,
the Naylor Collection traces mankind's earliest efforts to capture the two-dimensional image through the
advent of the Daguerreotype, photography of the late nineteenth century on through the most sophisticated
modern techniques. Thurman "Jack" Naylor, World War II flying Ace and lifelong friend to such legendary
photographers as Margaret Bourke-White and "Doc" Edgerton, has amassed this fabulous Collection over the
last sixty years.
The Pugliese Twentieth Century Popular Cultural Collection
(Mid-December)
What may well be the most extraordinary privately owned collection combining the rarest objects from
the worlds of motion pictures, popular music, politics and magic will be offered by Guernsey's just before
Christmas. Leading Florida real estate magnate Anthony Pugliese doggedly pursued locating and acquiring
eight hundred sensational objects that would "boggle the mind" of pop cultural fans anywhere. Movie
lovers will rejoice in having the opportunity of bidding on items from The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, The
Maltese Falcon, Rebel Without a Cause, The Ten Commandments and many other legendary titles. The
Beatles and Elvis headline the rock & roll section of this Collection while Houdini is the star of the magic
section. The political section of The Pugliese Collection shares insights into the career of President Kennedy
as rarely seen before, offering items ranging from his personal humidors to historic items relating to the
assassination.
In collaboration with Random House Children’s Books and Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Guernsey’s will be
Mark Kostabi and Leroy Neiman are just a sampling) will be offering original, specially created works of art
Betty Ford Alpine Gardens
Located in an expansive mountain valley in Vail, Colorado, Betty Ford Alpine Gardens is the highest botanic gardens in the world at an elevation
of 8,250 feet. The nationally recognized garden receives 100,000 visitors annually to observe its beauty, experience tranquility, and learn about
high altitude plants and ecosystems.
Founded in 1985 as a non-profit organization, the Gardens was named in honor of former First Lady Betty
Ford for her many contributions to the Vail Valley, our nation and beyond. Today, the gardens are spread
over three acres to include four distinct landscapes; Alpine Rock Garden, Children’s Garden, Mountain
Perennial Garden, and Mountain Meditation Garden. Plant collection groupings are based on type of
habitat, geographic origin, taxonomy and need for conservation.
Betty Ford Alpine Gardens offers many popular programs and events to the local community which provide
imaginative educational learning for young children, teenagers and people of all ages. Additionally, the
Gardens offer a horticultural therapy program and opportunities for the public to gain useful knowledge about
plant and environmental conservation. Betty Ford Alpine Gardens monitors rare local plant populations
and maintains a botanic list of plants that are suitable for growing in the high altitude landscape.
Nestled within Ford Park, where the Gardens are located, is a 1922 schoolhouse that served as a classroom
to the children of the early settlers in the local mountain community. Today, the schoolhouse is open to the public as a gift shop to benefit Betty
Ford Alpine Gardens, as well as being a museum. You are invited to learn more about Betty Ford Alpine Gardens and take a virtual tour on their
website at: www.BettyFordAlpineGardens.org.
OK Corral Camp
Located in the heart of Colorado, this camp will provide a safe environment for children with chronic and life-threatening medical conditions to
enjoy a safe, fun-filled camp experience, at no cost.
Like the Hole in the Wall Camps, which the OK Corral is in the process of becoming, the OK Corral Camp is geared towards serving children
between the ages of 7-17 who have Arthritis, Asthma, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Hemophilia, HIV, Sickle Cell Anemia,
Spina Bifida, Respiratory Diseases, Brain Injuries, and Burn Injuries. Most of the campers will join us from The Children’s Hospital in Denver,
which serves children from Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota,
and South Dakota. The OK Corral will also serve underserved children in the Western US including Texas
and Utah.
The OK Corral Camp provides activities such as fishing, horseback riding, arts and crafts, archery, ropes
courses, talent shows, and much more! The primary goal is for each camper to regain a sense of confidence
without feeling pressure from competition. Campers are able to find commonalities amongst peers and
have fun just being kids. Not only can they grow personally, but also learn about and enjoy the outdoors.
For children that are normally limited to their homes and/or hospitals, experiencing the beauty of the
Rocky Mountains is an unforgettable experience.
The OK Corral Camp facility is projected to open in the summer 2010, but we will be facilitating camp
sessions at other Hole in the Wall Camps in the summer 2007. If you are interested in the project or have
any questions please contact us at info@okcorralcamp.org.
The Eagle River Scholarship Fund
The Scholarship Fund was organized in 1971 for the purpose of encouraging promising seniors at Battle Mountain and Eagle Valley high schools - as well
the Vail Mountain School - to continue their education. Since then, hundreds of young people, and some not so young, have received financial assistance
from this program.
The Scholarship Fund has been supported primarily by the annual Jerry Ford Invitational Golf Tournament at Vail and by private donations. The Scholarship
Fund attempts to fill in gaps left by other available scholarship programs. The award is not based solely on academic excellence or financial need. It also takes
into account a variety of criteria ranging from motivation to circumstances. Nor is it for the college-bound only - students wishing to attend special vocational
and trade schools are also eligible.
The Scholarship Fund’s premier award is named for former President Gerald Ford, and David Pelkey, a long time Vail local who, prior to his death in 1990,
was a driving force behind the Jerry Ford Invitational Golf Tournament.
