Indian Feminism through Streetwear

India has been through a wave of feminism which sparked movements all over the country as individuals began to call out the sexist traditions embedded in the culture. Even though a lot of the horrifying truth has surfaced on social media and is now common knowledge, the change in the system is minimal. Women are still expected to follow sexist norms whilst men's misogynistic attitudes are supported. Growing up in India's most modern city Mumbai, I did not escape the sexism and inequality at all. I express my anger through my attitude and fashion. Even though the norm I am breaking is small, it makes me feel empowered. My Zine portrays this idea through the vision of 4 Indian feminist streetwear brands - Gundi Studios, Nor Black Nor White, Hut Mentality and Babbu the Painter.

MISOGYNY

There is a current wave of Indian feminist streetwear brands.

India is a democracy and technically we are all equal.

However, given the misogynistic culture of our past, our

present situation in India is full of sexism. The list of

problems is long and the solution has not been discovered

yet. However, brands like Gundi Studios, Hut Mentality, Nor

Black Nor White and more have channelled their

frustration of the sexist Indian culture into art.
