HURST HONOURED WITH ROTARY PEACE AWARD

Respect for cultural diversity, and the life and dignity
of every person, without discrimination or prejudice.
Rejection of violence towards all people in all its
forms.
Resolution of conflict within local and global
communities.
Reconciliation of differences in the pursuit of harmony.
This is the Rotary Community Peace Credo and very
fittingly what could be seen as the definition of Ian
Hurst’s life. As the winner of Rotary’s 2012 Helen &
Peter Walsh Memorial Community Peace Award Ian
has well and truly earned the honor.
In his lifetime Ian has traversed the world twice, visiting
over sixty countries, seen places you could only dream
of, but he has also experienced the feeling of being
in a place in which unimaginable events have taken
place.
Assisting those he could, sharing the stories of those he
could not and spreading the word to those who could
not see for themselves.
Ian has shared the Australian spirit throughout the
world and our community. Whether this has been
through his travels as a young man, National Army
Service in Australia and Navy Reserves for Canada to
walking Kokoda at the age of 74 or raising up to sixty
thousand dollars selling legacy badges. All of which
he has done whilst helping to raise his own family.
Surprised and humbled to be the recipient of this years
award, Ian wanted to ensure that Rotary and members
of the community were recognised for all the work
they have accomlished and wanted to point out that
he could not have achieved what he has without their
help and support.
Ian has encompassed the very definition of the Rotary
Community Peace Credo throughout his life. We
congratulate him on such an admirable achievement and hope that his initiative, compassion and sense of
community pride is a demonstration to our community, of what one individual can achieve when they set
their mind to it.
EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH - February 2012
Each month the RSL and Commercial Clubs’ Management chooses a staff member
who has been outstanding in their work for that month. Much of the decision is
heavily influenced by feedback from members and guests. Each employee receives a
$200 gift voucher to the business of their choice.
Employee of the month for February went to Jarrod Fitzgerald. Jarrod can be found
at the Wagga RSL, behind the bar. He says the best part of his job is the people he
works with and members and guests he has the opportunity to meet.
