ANZAC DAY PROGRAM<br />
<strong>LEST</strong> <strong>WE</strong> <strong>FORGET</strong><br />
Thousands of people are once again expected to line<br />
Baylis Street on April 25 to witness <strong>Wagga</strong> <strong>Wagga</strong>’s<br />
ANZAC Day march.<br />
It’s the one day of the year where the country stops<br />
to pay homage to our brave men and women who so<br />
valiantly fought for the freedom we often take for<br />
granted today.<br />
<strong>ARRANGEMENTS</strong><br />
The program for the day is as follows:<br />
6.00am: DAWN SERVICE (conducted by Legacy) at<br />
the Cenotaph followed by pilgrimage to the War<br />
Cemetery (Kooringal Road).<br />
7.00am: BREAKFAST at <strong>Wagga</strong> <strong>RSL</strong> Club, continental<br />
and buet style available, with some old favourites.<br />
Great value at only $10 per person.<br />
10.00am: MARCHERS ASSEMBLE at the corner of<br />
Baylis and Morgan Street.<br />
10.30am: ANZAC MARCH commences with<br />
procession moving up Baylis Street to the Cenotaph.<br />
11.15am: COMMEMORATIVE SERVICE in the Victory<br />
Memorial Gardens. LTCDR Linton Lee, Senior Navy<br />
Ocer, RAAF Base <strong>Wagga</strong> RAN keynote speaker.<br />
12.30pm: ANZAC DAY LUNCH at the <strong>Wagga</strong> <strong>RSL</strong><br />
Club. $10 for <strong>RSL</strong> sub-Branch members only, $25 for<br />
non-members. Cost includes lunch, beer, wine and<br />
soft drinks. Tickets available from the <strong>RSL</strong> sub-Branch<br />
Oce at 26 Dobbs Street, <strong>Wagga</strong>.<br />
All ceremonies, except for the Dawn Service, are<br />
co-ordinated by The Returned and Services League of<br />

The ‘Forgotten War’ remembered at last<br />
The Korean War has often been referred to as the “Forgotten War”, but fortunately no longer. At last the Korean<br />
Veterans have a memorial in the <strong>Wagga</strong> <strong>Wagga</strong> Victory Memorial gardens dedicated to those who served. The<br />
memorial will be a lasting tribute to all Korean vets and their families, standing alongside other memorials dedicated<br />
to the thousands of veterans who served their country and paid the supreme sacrifice.<br />
Around 200 people from across Australia and the world gathered to witness the unveiling of the memorial, including<br />
many relatives and friends of the vets. In attendance to the ceremony was Mr Jeong Wahn-Seong, Minister and<br />
Consul General from the Embassy of the Korean Republic. Also in attendance was Major General George Ball (retired)<br />
who provided the keynote address, recounted the tragic and brave history of Australia’s involvement in Korea, and<br />
Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie (retired) who spoke of those missing in action. The three services were represented<br />
by Col. Hay (Army) Lieutenant Commander Lee (Navy) and Group Captain Checker (RAAF). Also present was VC<br />
recipient Keith Payne, along with the Mayor of <strong>Wagga</strong> <strong>Wagga</strong> Mr Kerry Pascoe, Mr. Michael McCormack and the <strong>RSL</strong><br />
Club president Mr John Keyes.<br />
Many thanks must go to the <strong>RSL</strong> sub- Branch for their generous sponsorship in making this event happen in<br />
particular, Brian Watts, Brian Stewart and Tanya Baker. Over all a very successful day and one to remember by all.<br />
EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH - January 2011<br />
Each month the <strong>RSL</strong> and <strong>Commercial</strong> Clubs’ Management chooses a staff member<br />
who has been outstanding in their work for that month. Much of the decision is<br />
heavily influenced by feedback from members and guests. Each employee receives a<br />
$200 gift voucher to the business of there choice.<br />
Employee for January went to Carla O’Brien. Carla can be found at the <strong>Commercial</strong><br />
Club in Catering. Carla is always happy and people can tell that she enjoys her job as<br />
she radiates positive energy. She says she loves the contact with all the members and<br />
guests. She has been described as an absolute asset to Bennys Bistro.<br />

ELVIS IS BACK<br />
by popular demand!<br />
Norm Bakker is keeping Elvis’ spirit alive, doing his best to<br />
look and sing like the King of Rock ’n’ Roll.<br />
Norm has performed his ‘Solid Rock Salute to Elvis Presley’<br />
around the Hunter Region and Central West New South<br />
Wales and has been a frequent performer at the Elvis<br />
Festival in Parkes, including this year’s festival. In addition,<br />
Norm recently won another ‘Almost Elvis’ Look-alike<br />
competition at Kurri-Kurri’s Rock ’n’ Roll Festival.<br />
Of course there are many impersonators, and Norm insists<br />
that his show is more a tribute to Elvis and not an imitation;<br />
“There is only one Elvis, and in our lifetime there will be<br />
no other like him,” although he is determined to do an<br />
interpretation that Elvis fans are sure to enjoy.<br />
Own any 60’s Rock ‘n’ Roll gear? Maybe an Elvis suit or wig?<br />
There will be giveaways and on the spot prizes up for grabs<br />
throughout the night. Have some fun and dress up.<br />

Meet The Battlers<br />
Shaun Minnick and Michael Verde are The Battlers. Born<br />
in Sydney and raised in Bimbi NSW the boys (cousins)<br />
grew up in a large family. Their parents were huge fans of<br />
country Music and their passion for country music was<br />
passed down.<br />
The Battlers are now multi A.C.R.A award winners.<br />
Having won their third award in three years at the 2010<br />
Tamworth on Parade Benefit in <strong>Wagga</strong> <strong>Wagga</strong>.<br />
Michael and Shaun are passionate performers and<br />
whether it be recording or performing live to a large<br />
crowd their love of music and singing is obvious to all<br />
who listen.<br />
Known to a few of the Tamworth locals as Legends, The<br />
Battlers performances drew large crowds to both the<br />
Busking arena and to the stage. The Battlers are also<br />
known for performing a capella, a feat not attempted by<br />
many artists.<br />
The extraordinary talent they have shines through in<br />
their very original and entertaining performances, and<br />
the dedication they show will ensure that The Battlers<br />
are here to stay.<br />
