Fun in the Park

The Lord Mayor of Brisbane
recently commented that Little
Bayside Park in Manly is “…the
busiest park in Brisbane.”
Indeed, the huge number of regular and special
events organised in Little Bayside Park by the
Manly Chamber of Commerce and Bayside
PCYC all year round has made it a ‘happening
place’ for both local residents and visitors to
Manly, who are attracted to the park in their
thousands almost every weekend.
Among the regular events taking place in Little
Bayside Park are Manly’s Creative Markets,
held every Sunday and attracting more stalls all
the time. On the first Saturday evening of each
month, the Chamber of Commerce organises
Movies In The Park (the Chamber also reserves
Manly’s local RSL Hall in case of bad weather.)
On the third Saturday of every month, the park
is packed with food stalls and entertainers
who come from far and wide to be part of the
celebrated Jan Powers’ Fresh Food Market.
In addition to these regular events, the Manly
Chamber of Commerce organises two special
‘Days In The Park’ each year (such as last year’s
Mother’s Day In The Park); and the Brisbane City
Council organises a regular Bands In The Park
program.
Major annual events also rely on Little Bayside
Park, including the 20,000-strong Manly
Halloween Street Party, and the 4BC/4BH
Breakfast In The Burbs, which attracted
thousands of visitors and major national TV stars
to Manly last year.
Surprisingly, Manly has been able to absorb
these weekend crowds without causing
significant local problems. Indeed, there is still
room in Manly for family gatherings and private
events, and during the week Little Bayside Park
becomes an oasis of waterfront calm and a
delightful place to sit or stroll.
Then it’s on to the next weekend, and the fun
in Little Bayside Park at Manly begins all over
again.
