Inspired by a notorious murder case and initially a stage
play, Rope makes ground-breaking use of the continuous
camera take within a single stage set to spin a thread of
suspense and to entangle the audience in its theme of
complicity.
It was the first Hollywood thriller to be filmed in colour
and the subtly changing backdrop of a New York skyline
creates a definite sense of real time. With an expert cast
negotiating the dialogue’s darkly sardonic humour, Rope
remains one of Hitchcock’s most original and experimental
creations.

of a relationship triangle between an unhinged king,
his young English queen and the king’s physician who

landscape of Europe. This affecting account of kindred
spirits challenging the power behind the throne boasts
award-winning lead actors plus Lars von Trier as the film’s
executive producer.
