The Hollies
WE’VE BEEN ON A BEAR HUNT!
On Monday morning in assembly, Mrs
Assinder warned that a bear had been
sighted at Main School – it seemed quite a
friendly bear but obviously it was a long way
from home.
Later that day, as they listened to ‘We’re
Going on a Bear Hunt’, the first year children
had a brilliant idea! ‘Let’s go on a bear hunt.
Let’s find the bear and show him the way
home!’
Four days later, our
intrepid explorers were
ready. Suitably dressed
for any terrain they
might encounter and
carrying nets, whistles,
compasses, mobile
phones, magnifying
glasses, cameras, binoculars and other vital
bear hunting equipment, the children
nervously crossed The Green. They began to
search for the vital first bear clues. Before
long a series of paw prints were discovered.
Edging along the path, they hardly dared to
look around the corner. There, over by Mrs
Bryan’s office, leaning against a tree, was a
bear!! Like Olympic
athletes (and screaming
at the top of their
voices!) our youngest
pupils gave chase and
cornered the bear on the
hockey pitch. To their
surprise, the bear wasn’t
fierce at all but gentle
and frightened because he was lost.
The bear explained that he was on his way
to Twycross Zoo but had taken the wrong
turning. The children were happy to point
him in the right direction and after a little
play together, the bear went on his way and
the children returned to a well deserved
lunch at the Hollies.
We look forward to visiting our new friend
at Twycross Zoo next year.

Every year the children at The Hollies wait expectantly on the last day of term for a very special visitor. This year they were not
disappointed and Father Christmas also brought along a friend – Tigger!
