My Story
Hi! My name is Shenika Tailor, I am 18 years old and am
currently recovering from a long term Eating Disorder
which had spiralled out of control. It had begun in the
beginning of 2013 when my cousin brothers wedding
was announced, being the younger sister I wanted to
look my best at his wedding. I only had the intention of
toning up and loosing some belly weight, so I did what is
advertised all over social media, ‘cut out sugar’, ’flat
stomach exercises’, ’eat this, at this time’ etc… at the time,
I felt so good seeing the weight instantly drop off, No, it
wasn’t due to following these ‘tips’ it was due to the fact I
had taken ‘cutting down my intake’ to the minimum. As
you can guess, on the wedding day I did not look the way
I wanted, I still felt quite large even though I weighed
almost a third of my weight! Months passed by, I had lost
even more weight and I was later admitted to an inpatient
facility in London…this was the worst 2 1/2 months of my
life! I was mistreated by my consultant and some staff, i’m
guessing it was due to the fact that I was eating
everything given to me without fighting back. Personally, I
didn’t have an issue with eating food, I was very willing to
recover, but looking back I was so consumed by ED rules
and routines and the fear of gaining weight incase I
looked liked my old self is what kept me from flourishing.

Since coming out of inpatient I have had ups and downs in
my recovery and that is expected after being stuffed with
food without much mental support. However, I have come a
long way since then, I have an Instagram account
(@recovering_taylor_x) where I give advice and support -
also started a YouTube Channel (Shenika Tailor) where I do
fun challenging videos and give advice on recovery. I am
still in recovery and still have steps to climb until I reach my
freedom, and that is why I have started ‘Flourish’, I can
document my journey, help to show you that it is possible
and you can follow me and see my progress weekly on my
recovery.
I am in a far better place in terms of my mindset and
strength since recovering on a basis where I challenge my
mind rather than focus on just gaining weight.
I would like to invite you to
read my weekly magazines
where I want to share my
tips and advice as well as
true stories, Doctors /
Nutritionist advice and
much more in hope to give
you a closer insight to the
reality of having an Eating Disorder.
Every week will feature different recipes, challenges,
updates and facts and much more!
I would also love for my readers who have had experiences
or know anyone who is recovery to write in and send me
your story so I can feature them on my eMagazine! You can
keep it completely anonymous or are welcome to give more
details that (with your permission) I can publish!

on how you can be featured!
