exposure, pollutants, and scarring, age our skin. Chemical peels are effective ways to

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BE TREATED BY
LASER OR PULSED LIGHT TREATMENTS?
Changes to the skin on your face, neck, chest, and
back of your hands, which are associated with aging
and sun exposure (photo-aging), such as fine lines,
wrinkles, rough blotchy patches, and deep expression
lines are all conditions suitable for laser and pulsed
light treatments. These changes to your skin are not
only accelerated by sun exposure, but also by smoking,
alcohol, and atmospheric pollution. Other conditions
that can be treated include acne scars, chicken pox scars,
irregular surgical scars, and skin discoloration.
We offer the most advanced laser and pulsed light
technology available today, combined with the
highest training possible. From resurfacing to hyperpigmentation
and scar reduction to increasing your
body’s production of collagen, a complete plan can be
created for you to reverse the signs of aging and UV/

HOW DO LASER TREATMENTS WORK?
Laser treatments work by using light-based energy (the
laser) to deliver energy to a specific chromophore. The
chromophores used in dermatology are usually melanin
(pigment in skin and hair), hemoglobin (in blood and
blood vessels), or water (in the skin). By specifically
delivering energy to these targets, we are able to

WHAT IS PICO GENESIS?
Pico Genesis improves the appearance of
unwanted freckles, sun spots, and age spots
and is the only laser safe for melasma patients.
Pico Genesis treatments will make your

HOW DOES PICO GENESIS WORK?
Everyone’s skin contains a substance called
melanin. It’s what gives our skin its color. When
melanin occurs in high concentrations, it can
result in brown spots and uneven skin tone.
Pico Genesis uses laser light to selectively
shatter unwanted pigmentation and remodel
the upper layer of the skin to return balance,
clarity, and radiance to your skin.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE
REQUIRED?
A series of six Pico Genesis treatments are
recommended to achieve an optimal outcome,
and ongoing maintenance treatments are
encouraged to sustain results over time. Your

Pico Genesis treatments are ideal for the

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A PICO
GENESIS TREATMENT AND WHAT
DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
Prior to treatment, your provider will clean the area.
You will feel the tip of the laser device touch your
skin. As the laser energy is applied, you’ll feel a
sensation that patients often compare to a prickly,
static electricity sensation. Most patients do not find
the treatment uncomfortable, but if you do, your
treatment provider may apply a topical anesthetic.
Immediately after treatment, you may apply cold
air or an ice pack for a short time. You should keep
the treated area out of the sun and apply sunscreen
for protection. Your Pico Genesis provider may
recommend additional follow-up care.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE
EFFECTS?
Most patients experience mild redness and
swelling immediately following the treatment.
These side effects are temporary and typically
resolve in several hours. Over the course of a
few days, the treated sun spots and freckles
will become darker and flake off as they heal,
revealing a new, even complexion.

WHAT IS BOTOX®?
Botox® is a neuromodulator that temporarily improves or
eliminates the appearance of moderate and severe wrinkles
in the following areas:

Botox® works by relaxing the muscles that, when they contract,
form the lines and wrinkles in your skin. We also offer Dysport®,

WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?
Dermal fillers treat the effects of aging from a different angle by
adding volume to areas where your skin is sagging or hollow.
As you age, your skin loses elasticity and tone. As a result,
the thin layer of fat beneath the skin on your face begins to
succumb to gravity and migrates downward. This leads to
sunken cheeks and deep parentheses lines around either
side of your mouth. Lips can also lose volume and develop
vertical lines around the edges.
By injecting fillers into these areas, your Provider restores
lost volume, which also smooths out the lines. Your Provider
can even use dermal fillers in your hands to improve the
signs of aging.
WHICH INJECTABLE IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Botox® and fillers work best in combination since they
address different aspects of the aging process. Botox® is
great for the upper face, reducing the moderate to severe
lines around your eyes and forehead.
Dermal Fillers go to work on the lower half of your face, where
volume loss is more of an issue when it comes to aging. Between
the two, you can look years younger almost immediately.
(It may take the Botox 7-10 days to fully relax your muscle.)
HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
Botox® and Dysport® usually lasts 3-4 months, while Dermal
Fillers last 6-24 months. In both cases, at the first signs of

SKIN FROM THE SUN
Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is
the leading cause of skin cancer. There
are 2 types of UV radiation:
» Ultraviolet A (UVA). UVA radiation can pass through glass. Research
suggests that it may:
– Cause premature aging and wrinkling of the skin.
– Play a role in causing basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell
carcinoma, and melanoma.
» Ultraviolet B (UVB). UVB does not pass through car windows or other
types of glass. UVB radiation:
– Is more closely linked with the development of skin cancer and
melanoma.
– Causes sunburn.
» It is important to protect your skin from both UVA and UVB radiation,
even on overcast and grey winter days.
Sun damage builds up over time. It is
important to use sunscreen every day,
even if it is cloudy.
» Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and
UVB radiation. Make sure it is water resistant and has a sun protection
factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. Other types of sunscreen may help prevent
sunburn, but they will not protect against skin cancer.
» Use a lip balm or lipstick that contains sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
» Apply at least 1 ounce of sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before going
outdoors. One ounce is enough sunscreen to fill a shot glass.
» When outdoors, reapply every 2 hours, or after swimming or sweating
