Description

Alice Kelley discovered fractals in 1995 and began collecting other people's fractal images. She

was excited by their abstract beauty and the fact that such gorgeous pictures were created by

math alone. Since fractals are actually computer versions of natural fractal phenomena like

coastlines, plant shapes, and weather patterns, they seemed to resonate with her because they do

not appear to be artificial. Kelley began making fractals herself a year later and found that she was

able to manipulate and color fractal images in an intuitive manner. Each fractal starts out as chaos,

and I find the pattern in it, and that pleases me, she said. Perhaps it's a metaphor. So much of life

and the universe is chaos, and I can take a tiny part of it and make beauty.
