transition(n) [tranˈziSH(ə)n]
Passage from one state, stage, subject, or
place to another: change.
The Class of 2020 were still
crawling in diapers on 9/11.
Their childhoods have been
punctuated by school -
shootings and catastrophic
climate change. Their senior
year in high school ended with
the paralyzing global health
crisis, a grim economy, no
prom, a non-traditional
graduation, and “Black Lives
Matter” demonstrations,
election year, and Donald
Trump in the White House.
The world is in some ways
unrecognizable and
unpredictable. More than
100,000 Americans have died;
tens of millions
are out of work; entire
industries have crumbled. The
COVID-19 virus and the
economic shock waves it
unleashed have stricken
Americans of all ages.
And all this, just as the 2020
Graduates try to close their final
year of high school. And just as
they are beginning to figure out
what it means to be an adult, to
make their own decisions, and
wisely pick their own life path.
Speak Up!
