the summer of
the "Wings"
Do you know who the "Wings" are? Did you
know that the name comes from our account
at the Glenora Store?
Well, most of you know us, because we have
been in the "Big House" of Glenora Farm
forever. We are now Adola, Katrin, Lisa,
Samina, Andrew, Matthew, Jana, Faith,
Denise, Miriam and our youngest and
newest member Wenzel. Of course Annette
and the children are also in the "Wings" but
not under the Store account "Wings".
Anyway, we try to wing ourselves through
the week between the day program and our
wing life and have created a neat little
community within our bigger community.
Life is more vibrant and interesting with the
two new houses creating a real
neighbourhood atmosphere. Everybody
looks forward to Friday evenings at Helios
House, when we enjoy a movie and some
delicious goodies. Samina just loves
"George’s brownies".
Roos Roos’ Roos story:
story:
Canada, Vancouver Island, the other side of the
world. How would it be? I had no idea.
My welcome was warm. Literally and
Figuratively. It was mid summer and all flowers
in the Camphill garden were blooming. I went
in to the house and had my first meeting with
one of the companions: A tight hug from a
squinting, smiling woman. She talked
cheerfully to me, switching her language
between English and German. (Fortunately I
understood both.)
Shortly after that another companion made
plans to merry one of the caregivers.
Everybody laughed and I felt comfortable
immediately.
This was going to be my home for 4 months.
Not as a volunteer or co-worker, like most of
the young people here: I am an exchange
student. I am from Holland, wanted to learn
English and choose the Waldorf School on
Vancouver Island. The school found the host
family for me on this Camphill.
When I look through the window in the
living room, I see a beautiful lake and behind
the wooded hills. No more houses in that
direction. Our house is the last after the 2 km
driveway that belongs to the Camphill.
Whenever I want to, I can go for a tenminute-walk
to the main house for instance
to join the folk dancing or singing, or work in
the garden, watch the piggies, or laugh with
the companions and co-workers.
They are all nice and welcome every stranger
with the same kindness.
Canada, Vancouver Island, the other side of
the world. How is it? I know!
